iphone-4

With leaks coming from California bars to Taiwanese manufacturing plants, the newest iPhone 4 release by Apple will definitely go down in history as one of the worst kept secrets the company has ever had. Was it all marketing, or just carelessness? No one will ever know, but legal actions against Gizmodo for revealing the device ahead of schedule can only lead us to believe it wasn’t intended. At the WWDC today Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone 4 and it appears to be just as we thought it would. A front facing camera allows you two-way video communication over VoIP with other iPhone 4 users, this is done through a new app called FaceTime (see video below). HD video (720p / 30fps) can be recorded on the back side camera with the new iMovie app that will cost an extra $5. Still shots have been upgraded with a 5 megapixel sensor and 5x digital zoom from the rear which is accompanied by an LED flash.

Sprint rumored to get next-generation iPhone

Over the last year or so rumors have been running rampant over the release of a Verizon iPhone. AT&T’s exclusivity contract with Apple is ending, several carriers are looking to get the world’s most popular smartphone in their stores and on their network. While Verizon is still most likely to get the iPhone 4G (4th generation), another popular carrier also looks promising; Sprint. This comes from a series of emails between a Best Buy Employee and The Tech Update. The email states that Best Buy will be carrying a Sprint iPhone beginning in June. The source or store that the employee works at will obviously not reveal themselves, as they probably don’t want to end up losing their job and getting their house raided by big bro..er Apple.

Three-quarters of Japanese smartphones are Apple iPhones

iphone-japan.200

You know, before the iPhone launched in Japan, I thought it was going to be a disappointment for Steve Jobs and Apple. It wouldn’t be a flop, but I didn’t think it would achieve the same level of market penetration as it was able to enjoy in the United States. Oh boy, was I wrong.

A study conducted by MM Research Institute has revealed that the iPhone has a 72.2% market share in Japan. There are 2.34 million iPhones in the land of the rising sun, representing a dominating force among smartphones.

Apple has all sorts of stringent restrictions for what is fair game for the App Store. Just about any app that involves female body parts are very likely to get a big red stamp of disapproval. Well, Gamelink is prepared to “go there” and offer Steve Jobs a change.

During the iPhone 4.0 OS event this month, the Apple head honcho mentioned the “porn store for Android” where you can “download nothing but porn.” He quickly quipped that this is “a place we don’t want to go – so we’re not going there.” He was later quoted as saying that “folks who want porn can buy an Android phone.”

Video: Hacker runs Google Android on first-gen iPhone

Hacker runs Google Android on Apple iPhone

Just because you have an Apple iPhone doesn’t mean that you need to restrict yourself to the iPhone OS. Just as people have been able to hack their Windows Mobile smartphones to run on alternate operating systems, it seems that the iPhone is worthy for some hacking as well.

In the video below, you’ll see that “planetbeing” has been able to modify his first generation Apple iPhone to run Google Android. I don’t know why you would want to put Android on an iPhone (why not just buy an Android phone?), but it is an exercise in what is possible.
