Maybe it’s because Windows 8 has arrived and that’s why retailers are frantically trying to clear out their Windows 7 laptops. That’s good news for consumers, because it means that you’re able to find some great deals on some pretty great laptops… like this substantial collection of Lenovo notebooks on sale for 20% off.

If you go to Amazon and look through the Lenovo notebooks that they have in stock, just about all of them on sale for quite a bit off the regular retail price. They’re mostly powered by Windows 7, but if you insist on having the newest OS, there are deals to get Windows 8 Pro for about $40.

As far as the Lenovo notebooks and ultrabooks go, a good example is the Lenovo IdeaPad Z585 261729U. It’s a 15.6-inch laptop powered by a 2.3GHz A-Series Quad Core A10-4600M processor and 6GB of RAM. It used to be $729.99, but now you can have it for $499.99. Similarly, you can get the MacBook-esque Lenovo IdeaPad U310 with the Core i5-3317U processor for $629.99, down from the regular price of $799.99.

Go find your Lenovo laptop deal on Amazon now before they take away these savings or run out of stock. They all qualify for free super saver shipping too.

Are you looking for a deal for a new laptop? You don’t have to wait until Black Friday to score a new notebook at a great price, because a number of HP laptops have been slashed on Amazon for savings of up to $400.

If you have a look at the HP laptops feature page on Amazon, you’ll see that they have selected six notebooks from HP for these significant savings. For example, you can go super sleek with the HP Envy 15-3040NR 15.6-inch laptop in black and silver. It’s powered by a second generation Intel Core i7-2670QM processor and 8GB of RAM, once retailing for $1,300, but now on sale for $1,100.

Perhaps you have a smaller budget. If that’s the case, the HP Pavilion dv6-7010us has also been slashed by $200, bringing your effective price down to just $499.99. For that, you get a 15.6-inch laptop powered by an AMD Quad Core A8-4500M processor, 6GB SDRAM, and 750GB hard drive.

The biggest savings is with the HP ENVY 14-3010NR Spectre 14-Inch Ultrabook, though. That’s where you save $400 off the regular price, bringing your purchase price down to $999. Check out all of the HP laptops on sale on Amazon and take advantage of the free super saver shipping too.

Windows 8 is almost here. If you are considering a Windows-based tablet, there is really only one area that is still a bit of a concern, apps. Right now, Microsoft currently has managed to gather 2000 apps before the launch of their new touch-oriented operating system, but that is pretty puny when compared to the 600,000+ that exist on iOS and Android. What do you do if you want more apps but are interested in Windows? Bluestacks is the answer.

Through the power of BlueStacks you can have access to many existing Android apps, from games to productivity apps. While anyone can download the standard app for an Intel tablet, AMD is partnering with BlueStacks to create the preloaded AMD AppZone Player. The software will bring 500,000 mobile Android apps to Windows and is highly optimized for AMD’s GPU and APU technology.

This is a great way for AMD to offer a “one-up” on Intel in the tablet arena, but really it is just as easy for Intel tablets to download the BlueStacks app and install it themselves. It is also still unclear about how seemless Android apps will work with Windows 8. Will they use the new touch-UI or only be accessible through the desktop? These questions still remain unanswered.

For those that are somewhat interested in Windows on a tablet, does the idea of the AppZone Player make you interested in considering an AMD option? If not, are more interested in Intel or an ARM-based Windows offering?

Air cooling for notebooks is cool enough, so long as you are sticking to simple processes on the machine. That’s why liquid cooling is suggested by many experts, and hard-core gamers; liquids are a whole lot more efficient when it comes to transferring heat from one place to another. We are not sure whether notebook manufacturers are working on a liquid cooling system for laptops, but the guys from Asetek have just demonstrated one.

Asetek has managed to add a prototype liquid cooling system into an Alienware M18x gaming laptop which is equipped with an Intel Core i7 running at 3.5 GHz and dual AMD Radeon HD 6990M graphics cards. This is exactly the type of notebook which needs a better cooling system.

As you may know, laptops these days coming with high-end specs have to use two or three separate cooling systems. There will be a fan and a heat sink for each CPU and GPU. Multiple systems mean that the cooling system for one part of the notebook cannot be utilized for cooling another part.

The liquid cooling system introduced by Asetek will circulate through different parts of a notebook which need cooling. This system will be more effective when compared to heat pipes and fans. According to benchmarking data, the performance of the liquid cooled notebook increased 18% to 23% and the laptop’s fans were running slower and quieter.

There are no hints regarding commercial availability, but if the system is coming, it appears like it will be available only with beefy notebooks. Hopefully, it won’t come with a hefty price tag too. Check out the video to learn more about it.

Although there are many military-grade laptops out there to choose from, it is still a bit difficult to find a good rugged machine for all the young users in schools. Lenovo has churned out tough devices earlier, but this is the first time that they are introducing a classroom-ready rugged laptop under the ThinkPad brand name.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X130e, which will be sold to schools in December with a price tag starting at $469, is coming with specific improvements which will help it to withstand the occasional fall or the abuse a notebook is likely to suffer in the hands of the students.

As you might not have forgotten, the X130e was earlier assumed to be the successor to the X120e when leaked pictures of the device started appearing on the internet. Now, the device has become official.

The 11.6 inch X130e, which will be available with an Intel Core i3-2367M processor or AMD Fusion E-300 or E-450 APU, comes equipped with a rubber bumper on the top cover, a thicker bezel, strong corners and hinges, and reinforced and recessed ports.

You will get up to 8GB of RAM and 500GB in storage, Bluetooth 3.0, and it will be powered by a 6-cell battery which is coming with a battery life of 8.5 hours.

Other features include 3 USB 2.0 sockets, HDMI, VGA, Gigabit Ethernet, a combined headphone / mic port, and a 4-in-1 memory card reader. The laptop also comes with the company’s RapidBoot technology, which is expected to provide a sub-20-second start-up time.

The downside is that all durable features in the new ThinkPad has resulted in a machine weighing in at 3.9 pounds (1.78kg), fairly heavy for an 11-incher (although Lenovo says it is “lightweight”).
