I’ve had my FreedomPop Photon 4G mobile hotspot for a number of months now and while coverage could be better, you can’t complain all that much when the service is completely free. The mobile hotspot is good for the road, but what about when you’re at home? FreedomPop announced a home service late last month and now they’re ready to follow through with that, offering the same kind of free Internet access as the mobile version.

There are a couple of pretty huge differences, though. First, instead of the tiny Photon 4G, you’ll need to invest in the $89 Hub Burst, a unit that combines a router and modem in one. It plugs into the wall like how most routers would, but you don’t need to run a cable into it. Instead, the Hub Burst connects to the same WiMAX network as its mobile counterpart. In this way, you are best advised to put the Hub Burst as close to a window as possible.

Second, while the mobile plans provide you with 500MB of free data each month, the home plan will give you 1GB of free data for free. That’s a nice little top-up, but realize that 1GB won’t go that far with your regular home web traffic unless you’re really light with your usage. Thankfully, they offer pretty great upgrade plans too, starting at $10 a month for a 10GB cap. You can also pay for faster speeds, bumping up from the complimentary 1.5Mbps to get a much better 8Mbps at $19 a month.

Check the FreedomPop home Internet page to see if you have service in your area. They’re not going to have LTE up and running until at least Q3, so it’s still worthwhile to consider this unit in the meantime. You can always upgrade, after all.

You don’t have to wait until Black Friday to get the best deal on a new smartphone. In fact, you can get the DROID RAZR MAXX 4G for just $50, which is a significant savings from the regular price of $749.00.

Not surprisingly, the RAZR MAXX 4G can only be had for the $49.99 asking price if you sign up for a qualifying two-year service agreement with Verizon Wireless. As far as specs, you get a 4.3-inch AMOLED display, 4G LTE capabilities, dual core 1.2GHz processor, and a massive 3300mAh battery that they say will provide up to 21 hours of talk time and up to 380 hours of standby.

Other key features include the 8MP camera with 1080p video, Bluetooth stereo music, 16GB storage, microSD expansion slot, front-facing camera, GPS, and MOTOPRINT for wireless printing to any postscript printer via Wi-Fi. And yes, it’s compatible with the Lapdock 100 for a 10.1-inch netbook-esque experience too, but that’s an optional additional purchase.

You can get the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX 4G on Amazon for $49.99. If you want to go a little bigger, they also have the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD for $199.99 on contract, giving you a 4.7-inch 720p display and Android 4.0 ICS.

Yes, it’s true that T-Mobile already has a $50 plan that gives you unlimited talk and text, but the “unlimited data” part of that equation downgrades from high-speed to 2G after you hit the 2GB cap. Given our need for high-speed wireless data all the time, that just won’t do and T-Mobile is finally changing its tune.

Starting on September 5, T-Mobile USA will offer a truly unlimited data option where you get to stick with the company’s 4G speeds regardless of how much data you consume. Go ahead and stream that Internet radio and watch YouTube clips to your heart’s desire. This truly unlimited data option rivals what MetroPCS announced just yesterday. Keep in mind that both Verizon and AT&T cap their data, so that leaves Sprint as the only other major carrier to have unlimited data.

To get unthrottled unlimited data with T-Mobile, you’ll need to tack on an additional $20 fee on top of the existing $49.99 unlimited plan. That brings you up to $69.99, which is still cheaper than the totally unlimited plan from Sprint. Now if only T-Mobile could figure out a way to get the iPhone 5 as part of its lineup…

Despite more recent offerings like the HTC One X and the Galaxy S III, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G is still easily one of the best Android smartphones out there. And you can get one for just a penny.

That’s the big markdown happening over at Amazon Wireless where they’ve slashed the price of this “pure Google experience” smartphone down to a price that is virtually free. Remember that, as a Nexus device, this phone will be first in line when it comes to Android updates, letting upgrading to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. This is the Verizon Wireless version, complete with 4G LTE connectivity to go along with wireless-N, the 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED screen, and dual core 1.2GHz processor.

To take advantage of this crazy price, you will need to sign up for a new contract or a contract extension with Verizon Wireless, but that knocks the list price down from $799.99 down to just that single penny. This is probably an indication that the next Nexus device is right around the corner, but you really can’t go wrong with the Galaxy Nexus 4G for $0.01, including free two-day shipping.

Imagine if you could have an iPhone with 4G and no monthly required contracts and a low monthly price tag. The new FreedomPop iPod Touch case does just that, adding 4G to your iPod Touch which therefore allows it an always-on connection for browsing the net and even making calls through programs such as Skype. The new case is only $99, but that’s not even the best part, the case includes 500MB of free data each month and rewards you for referring friends by giving you an extra 500MB a month per reference. Sure, 500MB might not be enough to use your iPod Touch exclusively as a phone, but you can add 1GB for just $10, which makes this an affordable way to turn the Touch into a 4G cell phone. The only other cost would be landline call minutes for services like Skype, but even so this could be a pretty affordable way to get your hands on an iPhone-like experience without the need of a true iPhone.

If you don’t find the FreedomPop system to be up to snuff, they give you 90 days to return it for your money back and will even allow you to fully cancel the free data plan at any time, if you so desire. Not interested in adding 4G to your iPod Touch, but want to get your hands on 4G for your iPhone? There is a case for that as well, with the same free basic data plan included. This 4G accessory even includes a wifi hotspot option that allows up to eight other devices to connect, though with a 500MB cap, you might have to be careful on who you allow to share with you and what you do with the hotspot.

What’s the catch? For the moment, 4G technology is fairly limited in the US, so you will need to make sure that you are in a FreedomPop supported area by filling out a form from their site. Unsurprisingly, the FreedomPop service only works in the US as well. Honestly, this is a pretty cool idea and I’m excited to see just how well this works out. Even if 500MB isn’t a lot, adding 1GB for $10 is pretty darn cheap. As 4G spreads throughout the USA, will FreedomPop be able to keep up with possible demand at these low prices? We’ll have to wait and see.

When it comes to Apple releases, we don’t seem satisfied for very long before we start dishing out the next batch of rumors about the bigger and better upcoming iDevice. The new iPad is just out the door and yet it hasn’t stopped the iPhone 5 rumors from coming in stronger than ever.

So what news is swirling around the rumor mill this time?

According to Reuters, a Korean newspaper called Maeil Business Newspaper has made claims that Apple has already begun ordering a new 4.6-inch display for the next iPhone from its supply vendors. These supply sources are unnamed, but one thing is clear, a 4.6-inch display would mean that the current iPhone design would have to be enlarged considerably.

Considering Apple’s aversion to creating a smaller-size (7-inch) iPad, I really can’t see them making the iPhone bigger either. Still anything is possible I suppose.

At the same time though, a rumor is also floating around about a 4-inch screen for the next iPhone. While I’m not sure if this is any more believable, it certainly is possible that a 4-inch size could exist without changing the current size of the iPhone. Maybe there will be a 4-inch and 4.6-inch model of the iPhone, not likely, but hey stranger things have happened before.

Both rumors also talk about 4G connectivity, which is pretty much a no-brainer at this point thanks to the new iPad.

As you can see in this screenshot, courtesy of iDownloadBlog, there is even code within iOS 5.1 that specifically mentions 4G. Of course this isn’t surprising considering that the iPad uses 4G, but this screenshot specifically mentions that “Disabling 4G will end your phone call.” Doesn’t get too much clearer than that.

For those of you who didn’t know, there is a free ISP out there who has, since the late-90s offered completely free access to the net. Or slightly quicker access for as little as $10, the service is called “NetZero”. The problem? It is dial-up internet and only you’re grandma is going to use it. This is finally changing though, as NetZero will be offering a 4G Internet option helping it become relevant in an era where dial-up is all but extinct.

Of course there is a catch, you can’t just use any old 4G system to get onto Netzero’s ISP servers. You need NetZero equipment such as the $100 4G Hotspot, which allows up to 8 devices, or the NetZero 4G Stick for $50, meant for devices like laptops.

Keep in mind this is NOT 4G LTE, just plan ole’ 4G. There are quite a few plans such as a free option which has a data cap of only 200MB, a $10/500MB plan, a $20/1GB plan, $35/2GB plan, and even a $50/4GB plan.

All the data plans can be toggled from data speeds of 1Mbps down and 384Kbps up to speeds of 10Mbps down and 1.5Mbps up. While these aren’t at all the best 4G options out there, it is not a bad idea for those who only occasionally need access to mobile data connections. It’s also great for those who don’t want any contract, allowing for start-and-stop payments whenever you actually need the mobile plan. This is great for those who travel just one or two times a year for business and want a way to get on the net while on the road.

As a former user dial-up back around in the good old year of 1996, its nice to see that the company is finally managing to get with the times. I always enjoyed NetZero and am glad to see they are finding a way to reach new users in a world that is dominated by high-speed connectivity.

Samsung unveiled some new devices at the MWC 2012, but it is certainly a disappointment that the much anticipated Galaxy S3 did not make it for the event. We are hoping that Samsung would make up for this by bringing out a handset that is worth the wait. And it appears like that is what they are planning to do. The latest info suggests that the company is thinking about something big.

According to these rumors, which come to us courtesy of BGR, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S3 will be released in over 50 “markets or cities” simultaneously and will boast a 1.5GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor (will be a small surprise if they do not go for a third-party model). That is a much needed addition if the company wants to do well on the market against the newly unveiled monster device from HTC.

The S3 will apparently feature a whopping 4.8 inch “full HD” 1080p resolution display with 16:9 aspect ratio. That means movies will be amazing on the new screen. The S3 will be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and will be 4G LTE capable too.

The 8-megapixel rear camera (we wonder what Eldar Murtazin was playing with earlier) will stay the same. There is also a 2-megapixel front-shooter aimed at high resolution video calls. If that back cam doesn’t impress you, check out this one.

And the device’s entire back will be made out of ceramic, which is a pretty interesting choice if these rumors become true.

But, as always, we recommend you taking this with a grain of salt. But there is nothing unbelievable about these rumors, we are digging for more info on the upcoming handset, so stay tuned for updates.

Although all tablet lovers are waiting anxiously to know all about what’s new from Apple, at least some of you are looking forward to play with the Tablet P, Sony’s unique clamshell Android tablet. The dual-screened device, which was announced last year, is finally making its way stateside via AT&T on March 4th.

Just to refresh your memory, the Tablet P boasts a pair of 5.5-inch LCD screens which work independently or combined into a single large screen. So, when folded, that will be a 10-inch device in your pocket.

Running Android 3.2 Honeycomb with the company’s software additions (upgrade to ICS has been promised to arrive in a few months), the Tablet P also features a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM, 5MP rear cam and just 4GB of storage with a microSD card slot for cards of up to 32GB. You will have access to many apps optimized for the dual screens of the tablet from the company’s Select App, and of course Android Market is always there. And it is PlayStation Certified as well.

Via AT&T, the Tablet P will be available for $399 with a 2 year contract. It is a 4G device and you can choose from two monthly plans: $35/mo for 3GB of data or $50/mo for 5GB. But if you choose the latter, after two years you would have spent $1600. But you can get the device contract-free for $549 and select a pre-paid data plan that suits you.

But forget about all that if you have marked March 7th on your calendar.

The HTC One X certainly looks like it’s going to make things difficult for all the other phone manufacturers from around the world. And it appears like the other devices in the HTC One series are going to add to their agony. The HTC One Smay not be as beastly as the One X, but it has a really solid build and is really fast as well. And the One V is quite impressive for a low-end model.

Looking at the features, you will find a lot of similarities between the One S and the One X. Both runs the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS with Sense 4.0 UI and are coming with ImageChip, free Dropbox space, HTC MediaLink, and 4G support. But let’s take a peek at what all things are different.

According to Gizmodo, the device has a fantastic build which feels good in the hands. The handset’s aluminum body has ceramic-like qualities via a multi-arc oxidation process. Although light, the handset feels really strong and is very thin at only 7.9mm. The device’s screen won’t be as impressive as the one on the One X. The 4.3 inch qHD Super AMOLED display will have lower resolution than the One X’s 720p Super LCD2. But you will get to enjoy deeper blacks and vibrant colors on the Super AMOLED.

As we told you earlier, a quad-core Tegra 3 processor is what makes the One X a monster device. But Gizmodo’s Brent Rose found the One S’ dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor “extremely fast”. But we will be taking a closer look at it sometime soon and we will let you know all about it.

The One S has been slated to arrive within the next 60 days and will be launched on T-Mobile’s network first. We are expecting it to hit other networks as well. We will keep you updated on the device’s availability and price, so stay tuned.

The One V is a low-end device and it features a 3.7 WVGA Super LCD, and a single-core 1GHz processor. But it’s not that low end. The handset features the same image chip and optics as the other devices in the series, although the cam is only a 5MP one. But this ‘One’ also comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Sense 4.0. That’s a great addition into an entry-level device. Gizmodo says that the device’s aluminum frame feels solid and its performance, although slow when compared to the One S and X, was better than most low-end handsets out there.
