Asus has unveiled a fourth tablet at Computex 2011 to go alongside the recently announced PadFone. The Eee Pad MeMO 3D runs Android Honeycomb, has a 7″ multi-touch screen and is powered by a Qualcomm 1.2 GHz dual core processor with 1GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage.

The portrait-oriented tablet has stylus support, so you can treat the MeMO 3D like a digital notepad. The tablet also comes with a MeMIC Bluetooth hands-free headset s0 you can make calls from the device. The glasses-free 3D display allows you to watch movies and play games in 3D, but only in landscape mode due to the parallax barrier technology Asus used for the tablet.

The device has a 1.2 MP camera on the front and a 5 MP camera with LED flash on the rear of the tablet. Asus hasn’t revealed pricing or a specific release date for the Eee Pad MeMO 3D, but have suggested it would be released in late 2011. Back in January Asus said the Eee Pad MeMO without 3D would be priced around US$499-$699 at with a June 2011 release. We’ll see how much extra money they pin onto the price with the newly added 3D feature, though with the feature only being available in landscape mode, it better be a minimal price increase.

Yes, sales of the BlackBerry PlayBook may still be far behind its Cupertino-sourced counterpart, but it looks like the Berry could be beating Apple to the world of 3D graphics on a tablet. And yes, this isn’t just an idea; it’s been demoed at BlackBerry World this week.

Research in Motion acquired The Astonishing Tribe (TAT) some time back and now that acquisition is bearing some three-dimensional fruit. The demo includes a range of 3D content, including 3D widgets, 3D games, and a 3D Rubik’s Cube. That’s pretty cool.

However, don’t expect the PlayBook to suddenly turn into the corporate version of the Nintendo 3DS. The demo shown off by co-CEO Mike Lazaridis required spectators to wear 3D glasses. Interestingly enough, though, the 3D content was relayed via HDMI to big screens, presumably allowing users to do the same with their HDTVs down the line.

Is 3D on a tablet just a gimmick? Maybe, but they said motion-gaming on the Wii was a gimmick too, but both Sony and Microsoft eventually followed suit with some motion gaming of their own. How the 3D-ness of the PlayBook compares to, say, the LG Optimus 3D smartphone remains to be seen.

It’s one thing to come forward with a spec sheet that should leave users in awe. It’s another thing altogether to have a product that people will actually want, admire, and use in the long run. Apparently, the G-Slate from LG falls short in that regard.

Kat Hannaford had the opportunity to go hands-on with the G-Slate (known as the Optimus Pad on the other side of the pond). The specs were impressive, to be sure, but she was left feeling “kinda chilly.” The 3D camera and display are to be applauded for their innovation and boldness, but it’s little more than a novelty at this point.

The anaglyphic 3D is a pretty funky feature, but personally I can’t imagine using it. It’s not like I have a 3DTV and would only shoot stereoscopic video at 720p—because I don’t—but imagine yourself in day-to-day life, viewing your home videos wearing red and cyan glasses. You’d maybe show your friends once or two, for kicks, but that’d be it.

It’s not that the G-Slate is a bad tablet — Kat says the build quality is quite a bit better than LG products of the past — it just lacks that X factor makes you feel that “I have to have it now” kind of feeling. What do you think? Is a 3D display a winning feature for you? Or are you satisfied with just having a smartphone pull your mobile duties?

There’s a price to be paid when you want to be on the cutting edge of technology. These days, being on the cutting edge means something to do with 3D displays, and that’s where we find the LG Optimus Pad. We also find the astronomical price that comes with this new tablet.

The 3D-capable LG Optimus Pad will apparently get stuck with a hefty 999 Euro price tag when it hits German store shelves in April. That puts it at twice the price of an entry-level iPad, but more or less on pace with the Motorola Xoom (which has since reportedly broken the four-figure mark for price).

This announcement comes by way of Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona and the Optimus Pad has specs that you’ve likely heard before. You’ll be doing the Honeycomb thing on the 8.9-inch 3D display. Unlike the Optimus 3D smartphone and the Nintendo 3DS, though, you will need special glasses to get the third dimension.

Considering that the Optimus Pad is the same as the G-Slate to be sold through T-Mobile USA, we have to wonder how much Old Magenta will be willing to subsidize this thing on a two-year data contract. Otherwise, you’ll be paying out of your teeth for this Android tablet.

This video gives us a quick peak at the LG G-Slate from T-Mobile. Although the Android 3.0 OS wasn’t shown off much to see if LG skinned it some how, it does give us an idea of how useless a 3D tablet could be. It has multitouch, HSPA+, HDMI output and well, you can probably guess the rest by watching the vid. Due “this spring” from T-Mo.

Sharp is continuing this trend with a pending e-reader of its own and they’re saying it’ll “rival the iPad.”

Not surprisingly, the Japanese company is staying mostly mum about the details thus far, but it seems that the yet-unnamed Sharp e-reader will indeed boast a color LCD instead of an e-ink based display. But that’s not the best part.

It mostly likely won’t be able to do it at launch, but it appears that the upcoming Sharp tablet e-reader has the “potential for 3D down the line.” Sharp President Mikio Katayama is already really enthusiastic about 3D, so this kind of added functionality makes sense.

The third dimension probably isn’t all that useful for reading through the New York Times, but it could make for a great gaming experience and maybe even some interesting 3D comic books. Or 3D movies even. The current timeline calls for a Japanese release this fall with a US launch by the end of the year.
