We all love the 80s and 90s, and it’s always great when something from that era comes back alive, isn’t it? What’s coming this time around is a new handheld version of a console, the Neo Geo. It has been confirmed that the Neo Geo X is coming in Q2 of 2012.

Retro games often lose their lustre, you go back 5 or 10 years later with a hope of reigniting that once lost flame, only to be left thinking, meh. It was better before. We are pretty sure that the arrival of the Neo Geo X — which will be shipping with classic Neo Geo titles on board — is going to give you a similar unsatisfied feeling.

The upcoming console will be coming equipped with a 3.5 inch LCD screen, SD card expansion, an A/V output, stereo speakers and a headphone port. Yes, a headphone port. You will be able to enjoy 20 licensed built in games (check out the titles below) and it is said to be priced “in a more affordable manner”, although it is not, unfortunately. In fact, despite what the marketers say, the Neo Geo people are going to be laughing all the way to the bank, if anyone buys it that is.

According to available info, the console has been confirmed for UK and US and it will come with a redonkulous price tag of around £500 (close to $800 USD!). That’s quite a small fortune for taking a trip down memory lane. But we know that some people might find the new handheld priceless. And those people can keep it in the closet next to the unopened Luke Skywalker action figure box while everyone else is playing real games on iPad and Android tablets.

But wait, there’s more. The new Turrican-inspired 2D shooter game named Gunlord is also coming for the Neo Geo and Dreamcast; the cartridge will cost around $570, what, did you think all the games were going to be free?

Of course, some might ask why the developers didn’t make the game for PC. Devin Coldewey over at Techcrunch has all the answers: “For the same reason some people still choose to write their novels on a typewriter, or paint with real brushes, or put their album out on vinyl. ” Or something.

Incase you have thousands of dollars burning a hole in your pocket, probably the same pocket of those Levi red tab jeans you bought in 1987 and are wearing now, then these Neo Geo X games may interest you:

Art Of Fighting, Baseball Stars, Cyber Lip, Fatal Fury, Fatal Fury Special, Football Frenzy, King Of The Monsters, Last Resort, League Bowling, Magician Lord, Metal Slug, Mutation Nation, Nam 1975, Samurai Shodown, Sengoku, Super Sidekicks, The King Of Fighters’94, The Ultimate 11, Top Players Golf, World Heroes.

3D technology has really taken off recently as new and innovative 3D products arrive to the market.

We are seeing new 3D smartphones, displays, portable game consoles and a variety of Smart TVs that make entertainment all the more immersive. Now, Acer has introduced their new display, the Acer HR274H.

What’s so different about another new display?

The HR274H, which is a 27 inch 1080p 3D display, comes equipped with a chip-based system which converts 2D to 3D and there is no need for any additional hardware or software.

The new system simply pushes the moving objects to the front of the scene while the background will appear as if it’s further away.

As for the other features of the LED-backlit display, it supports a native 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution, and comes with a 2ms response time (GTG), 250 cd/m2 brightness, and 100,000,000:1 contrast ratio (dynamic).

It measures in at 25.5″ x 18.5″ x 7.6″ and weighs 13.2 lbs. It also features two HDMI ports, a VGA port, integrated speakers, Energy Star Certification, and an angle adjustable stand.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to enjoy this 3D technology without a pair of glasses. A set of lightweight polarized glasses are included in the package, which differ from the more commonplace battery-based glasses. Both the display and glasses use film-patterned retarder (FPR) technology, which will supposedly enable a flicker-free 3D viewing experience.

The new monitor is now available for US customers at leading retailers and it comes with a price tag of $599.

While the display sounds pretty cool, keep in mind that turning most 2D content into 3D doesn’t necessarily mean that converted images will look any good and so expect mixed results.

3D seems to be the latest selling “feature” for not only movies but also consumer electronics. Companies are quick to jump onto the 3D trend, but are consumers? The technology could end up having some limitations, like the Asus 7-inch 3D tablet that only allows you to view 3D in landscape mode.

While 3D movies are increasing in popularity, it can be a real headache for some people. Literally. While no long-term effects associated with 3D viewing have been found yet, short-term effects have included headaches, nausea, dizziness and blurred vision. The effects can last a few hours and seriously ruin the 3D experience for those unlucky enough to experience them. If you’re not the biggest fan of 3D but your friends want to go see the latest Transformers in 3D, you can get De-3D glasses and join them. That’s right, you can pay $8.99 for a pair of glasses that can turn any 3D movie into plain old 2D.

3D movies work by showing two overlapping images on the screen. One image is meant to be seen by the right eye and one is meant to be seen by the left eye. 3D glasses darken the eye that is not meant to see the image. This happens up to 64 times per second. The De-3D glasses, on the other hand, take the image intended for the right eye, and deliver it to both eyes. The system apparently works in any cinema that uses Real 3D technology. If you’re willing to tag along with your friends and pay extra for the 3D experience, and fork over more cash for De-3D glasses, you can buy them online on ThinkGeek.
