From Tennis for Two to the latest high graphics games and high end technology, the gaming industry has certainly come a long way. The effects coming with today’s games are certainly superb, though gamers do know that what they see is not real. That may not be the case if you are playing a game on Inition’s Vertigo Simulator, which takes you to a virtual world made very real by the Oculus Rift and Microsoft Kinect.

As you can see in the image above, they provide everything to make your experience as real as possible. The game requires you to walk on a ledge placed 300 feet above the ground between two buildings, when you will be actually walking on that red strip.

The sound is provided by the headphones, the graphics are cool enough to make your brain feel that everything’s real, and there’s the Kinect, which tracks your motion, to add to the effect. And there are fans, which are not for keeping the players cool, but to provide wind effects.

From the looks of things, the whole experience is pretty awesome. And if it’s a safe environment in the real world, anybody can try it.

The Wizdish seems to be more appropriate when it comes to safety. It also combines the Kinect and the Oculus Rift, but you can walk on the slippery dish (requires a bit of training) wearing special shoes. And as you can see, players won’t have worry about falling down on the ground.

But if it’s a frightening experience players are looking for, there is Animazoo’s IGS Glove. It uses inertial gyros to track the motion of hands and fingers. So there is no need for cameras. The glove will give users a virtual reality experience of having their hands cut off by a guillotine.

Although most people won’t find falling 300 feet or having their hands sliced very amusing even in the virtual world, the technology which is enabling these effects is what’s important. The experience which will be available via the combination of technology such as the Wizdish, Kinect, IGS Glove and Oculus Rift will be phenomenally awesome. Gaming is most probably going to reach a new level if everything you see above is perfected.

So, are you excited about all this, could true virtual reality experiences finally be close at hand?

So, there you are, riding your bike down a beautiful mountain trail, surrounded by nothing but the sounds of birds singing and a brook babbling in the background. It’s really missing some Black Sabbath or Disturbed, wouldn’t you say?

While you could use a set of headphones for some personal aural entertainment, why not share you wonderful music library with the world by using the Scosche boomBOTTLE rugged portable Bluetooth speaker instead? As its name implies, the speaker is effectively shaped like a water bottle and it is designed to fit perfectly in the water bottle cage on your bike. I’m not really sure where you would put your water then–maybe you’d need a camelback or something–but there you have it.

Of course, the rugged speaker doesn’t have to go in the bottle cage on your bike. It can be more versatile than that, taking your tunes wherever life’s adventures may take you. They say it’s well suited for camping, hiking, and otherwise enjoying outdoor activities. There’s a non-slip surface and, even if you drop it, there’s a shock-absorbing exterior, as well as a weatherproof design to handle whatever nature throws at you.

As far as tech specs, you can expect 10 hours of continuous playback on a single charge via its pair of 3W speaker drivers, passive subwoofer, and pair of omnidirecitonal diffusers. There’s also a mic in there for Bluetooth handsfree calls. The grey Scosche boomBOTTLE is shipping now for $149.95 with blue, pink, yellow and green versions slated for next month.

In today’s world, retro is cool. This is especially true when it comes to DIY projects. We’ve seen devices over the years that allow you to use original controllers from game systems on modern devices, mobile game players using cartridges and so much more.

Now one DIY enthusiast has decided to pay tribute to one of the greatest gaming systems of all time, the SNES. In the video below the YouTube user liberty5 takes apart an SNES controller and transforms it into a unique set of headphones that are sure to stand out in the crowd.

Pretty cool idea, though it would be even better if the D-Pad and buttons actually did something other than were there solely for aesthetics. What do you think, is this a project you’d be interested in trying out for yourself or not?

It’s late, in fact very late, but it was finally here. The official Nexus 7 Pogo pin dock hit the Play Store and the good news was that it came with a price tag of only $29.99 in the US (25GBP in the UK and 30 Euros across Europe), $10 cheaper than from other online retailers. Maybe that’s why the dock has disappeared so quickly. It is already sold out, or “temporarily out of stock” according to the product page.

Just in case you are new to this accessory, the dock is coming equipped with microUSB and audio out ports, but that’s about it. There’s no HDMI. It just charges your Nexus 7 and can be connected to headphones or speakers. And yeah, it also acts as a nice stand for watching movies and more, as you can see above.

If you care about these things you can place an order after waiting till it is available again and get the dock in a week or two. Yes, you will have to wait again. So, are you interested in the dock or do you feel it isn’t really worth it at this point?

As great as gaming may have become on the iPad and the iPhone, it’s just not the same playing with touchscreen controls. We’ve seen some different physical contraptions that counter this, but the new Audojo Gaming Case for iPad could be one of the more creative solutions to date.

It basically snaps onto either side of the iPad with each half providing a speaker, an analog stick and a trigger button. This is quite different from some other cases and controllers that provide console-style face buttons and the analog sticks themselves remind me of the analog sliders you find on the PSP series from Sony. The dual analog stick configuration, along with the trigger buttons, makes the Audojo case a good solution for first-person shooters, flight sims and certain action games. I imagine this would be great if they ported Smash TV to iOS for this purpose.

Another thing that makes the Audojo gaming case different is that it doesn’t sync up with your iPad via Bluetooth. Instead, it plugs straight into the headphone jack of your tablet; this is supposed to provide minimal latency and extended battery life. If you still want to use headphones, there is a headphone jack on the case too. In terms of game compatibility which is very important for all these mobile gaming peripherals, Audojo is working with the Unity standard. And yes, you can use AirPlay for the big screen experience too.

Audojo is currently seeking funding through their Kickstarter campaign, which runs until February 21. They have a goal of raising $240,000. The estimated retail price for the gaming case will be “$99 or more,” but you can secure one now with a minimum pledge of $65 with free shipping in the US.

Sennheiser is a brand that takes its headphones seriously, just like anyone who may want to buy their products. However, prices are usually high for decent headphones worthy of satisfying a true audiophile, and there’s often no cheap alternative.

The Sennheiser MM 450 is a sturdy Bluetooth headset with noise cancellation, and right now, it’s a whopping 51% off. For its original price at $449 it’s still worth a buy; the headset is a perfect mix of comfort and portability.

The headset by default connects to devices via Bluetooth, however there is also a 3mm wire to plug into any ordinary audio jack, perfect for if you want to save battery between your devices, and even though in my opinion Bluetooth is ever more convenient, it’s nice to have the option presented at hand.

The headset also has a built in mic allowing you to hear and reply to any calls you may receive. As well as this, the Sennheiser MM 450 can turn noise cancellation on and off quickly and conveniently, and a handy feature called Talkthrough allows you to quickly filter out any music and let any outside noise be heard through your headphones.

There’s a lot more to the Sennheiser MM 450 Bluetooth headset, and for just $219.99 over at Amazon, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better deal.

[CES 2013] Right on schedule, the Sony Xperia Z was officially announced at the company’s CES press conference. For those that don’t know the Z, you might better know it as the “Yuga”.

The Xperia Z is the latest Sony flagship and it is shaping up to be a rather powerful offering.

The phone has a 5-inch 1920×1080 display, 13MP camera, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor and 2GB of RAM. Other specs include 4G, NFC, microSD and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Sony claims the upgrade to Android 4.2 is coming shortly after the launch as well.

As far as pricing and exact launch date is concerned? We don’t know much about either, though Sony does state the phone will arrive in Q1 of 2013. For those wondering about the Xperia ZL (aka Odin), it has also been confirmed by Sony and will be available in select markets around the same time frame.

What do you think, excited for the new flagship 1080p Sony handset or not?

On top of this, it brings the best of Sony’s unique technology, content, design and connectivity to deliver rich user experiences. Xperia Z will launch globally in Q1 2013.

“With Xperia Z, we are bringing over half a century of innovation in TV, imaging, music, film and gaming to create a superphone experience that truly stands out,” said Kuni Suzuki, President and CEO, at Sony Mobile Communications. “With great specifications, Sony’s media applications and One-touch functions,

Xperia Z is well positioned for leadership in the smartphone market. By putting smartphones at the heart of our strategy, Sony is enabling people to create, enjoy and share content and experiences like never before.”

Intelligent Sony Technology
Xperia Z’s razor sharp Reality Display, powered by Mobile BRAVIA® Engine 2, brings Sony’s long-standing TV expertise to the smartphone and delivers an immersive viewing experience with super brightness and clarity. The smartphone shares capabilities with Sony digital cameras and features Exmor RS for mobile, the world’s first image sensor with HDR (High Dynamic Range) video for smartphones. HDR technology gives clear images against strong backlight, so users can capture razor sharp pictures and videos whatever the conditions.

Xperia Z also includes Battery STAMINA Mode that can improve the standby time by four times or more*by automatically shutting down battery-draining apps whenever the screen is off and starting them up again when the screen is back on.

Discover, enjoy and share entertainment with Sony’s media applications and One-touch functions

Sony media applications offer a consistent entertainment experience across a range of Sony devices. Pre-loaded on Xperia Z, the “WALKMAN”, Album and Movies apps, enable discovery of on-line and off-line content through a single access point with new ways to enjoy and share that content. The “WALKMAN” application provides access to all your downloaded music, a library of 18 million songs to explore from Music Unlimited and Facebook social integration. The Movies application gives consumers access to over 100,000 movies and TV series from Video Unlimited while the Album application enables easy access to Facebook friends’ photos as well as browsing photos by location.**

One-touch functions enable consumers to easily share music, photos and videos from their smartphone to an array of NFC-enabled Sony devices, including speakers, headphones and now TVs. With the new BRAVIA TV, also announced today, simply touch Xperia Z to the remote control of the TV to instantly enjoy your photos and videos on the big screen.

Two additions to Sony’s range of NFC-enabled headsets were also introduced today, the Stereo Bluetooth™ Headset SBH20 and the Wireless Headset DR-BTN200M. Touch Xperia Z to either headset and begin listening to tracks instantly.

Stand-out design and durability

Precision engineered with premium materials, Xperia Z introduces a unique OmniBalance design with subtly rounded edges and smooth reflective surfaces on all sides. Despite its slim 7.9mm body, Xperia Z is highly durable with tempered glass and anti-shatter film on the front and back, as well as the highest levels of dust and water resistance*** (IP55 and IP57) found in a premium smartphone.

In selected markets, a design variant of Xperia Z – Xperia ZL – will also be released in Q1 2013. Xperia ZL delivers the same immersive entertainment experiences as Xperia Z but in a smaller form factor.

Xperia Z and Xperia ZL will launch on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and will be upgraded to 4.2 shortly after launch for the latest Android user experience.
