High schoolers make 50mpg hybrid car that does 0-60 in 4 seconds |

  If you think that hybrid cars have to be gutless, powerless no-fun-to-drive vehicles, you’re wrong. You’re also wrong if you think you need a multi-million dollar corporation backing you up to build one, because a group of high school students from Philadelphia have put together the K-1 Attack Hybrid that goes from 0 to 60mph in four seconds, and what’s more, this “supercar” does it making 50 miles on the gallon.
They really made a hybrid vehicle in every sense of the word, because the K-1 Attack takes its chassis from a Honda Accord and a 150hp turbo diesel engine from a Volkswagen, and mates them with a 200hp electric motor. If that’s enough to get your head spinning, this is a hybrid electric/biomass car – it runs on fuel made of soybeans!
What more can you possibly ask for from a car? This thing has got excellent fuel economy, plenty of “umph”, and its design makes you think the K-1 Attack had to be made by someone in Italy. From carbon fiber body panels to OZ Racing wheels, this car is sick, to say the least. Heck, because this is “off the shelf technology”, there is only an estimated $80,000 to $100,000 worth of parts involved in creating the Attack. Well worth it, in my books. Now if only we can convince “real” automakers to do the same.
