RFID tags embedded in Daytona 500 tires |

  Jimmie Johnson won the Daytona 500 during the weekend, and RFID tags were right there with him. In what some would see as a stunning development, NASCAR and leading tire manufacturer Goodyear agreed to have the RFID tags installed in all Goodyear Eagle tires. That equaled every tire on every car in the race.
It's the first of a season full of experiments for the arrangement, with all races in the forthcoming Nextel Cup, Busch, and Craftsman Truck series also taking part in the RFID experiment.
"We are pleased that we were able to cross the finish line with Goodyear and that they chose us to collaborate with them on the development and manufacture of their RFID tire tag," said Dan Finch, president and CEO of Advanced ID, the tag manufacturing company.
The tags, of course, allowed more accurate tracking and diagnostics of the vehicles taking part in the famous event.
Finch said the project had been nearly a year in the making and that the company planned to offer its services to other tire makers worldwide.
