Bloomberg to Ban Cars in NYC's Times Square |

 We've seen similar measures used in other large cities, and now it seems like the traffic congestion is getting so bad in New York that Mayor Michael Bloomberg is considering banning all cars from Times Square.
The mayor hired Jan Gehl, a Danish urban planning consultant and architect, to help with the decision, asking Gehl for a solution to "alleviate serious traffic concerns in congested areas." Gehl has previously worked on plans for London and Copenhagen, and he typically prioritizes cyclists and pedestrians over vehicles.
The current proposition -- being thrown around as plaNYC -- would make for more tree-lined streets, decreased parking, and the possibility of an $8 toll for drivers entering Manhattan below 86th street. The fees collected would go toward improving mass transit.
