Lenovo releases the IBM ThinkPad X41 Tablet Convertible |
|
Everyone looks at the IBM ThinkPad as a classically designed business notebook, from the jet-black colour, to the most recent slimmed down versions, IBM created a winner here.
Lenovo Group aquired IBM’s personal computing division just two months ago for the price of US$1.25 billion, today they announce the first ever ThinkPad Tablet PC.
The new ThinkPad X41 Tablet is a 3.5 pounder that measures a mere 1.14-inches thick. Lenovo claims the X41 is 20 percent lighter than any of their closest competitors and offers the longest standard battery life of any 12-inch convertible tablet.
Lenovo hasn’t re-written the books of design here, the X41 Tablet essentially is the ThinkPad X41 Notebook with a swiveling 170-degree viewing angle touch-screen LCD. Of course there is much more to that, the screen is accurate enough to offer users a writable slate and has been coated with anti-reflective and anti-glare substances to enhance indoor viewing. With the latest version of Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, support has been added for digital pen input, handwriting recognition and speech input.
Users can select an optional integrated fingerprint reader for increased security depending on the environment the device will be used in. Battery life is rated above any current 12-inch convertible tablet, at an average of 6.3 hours and up to 8.5 hours with the extended 8-cell battery.
Access Connections software can control your Wi-Fi wireless connectivity to the many 802.11 a/b/g networks.
The Intel Pentium M Low Volt or Ultra Low Volt processor is one of the most ideal chips used to sustain longer battery life. Also inside is the Intel 915GM chipset, up to 1.5 GB of PC2-4200 DDR2 memory, and the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900.
The ThinkPad X41 Tablet will start selling on June 14th through select resellers and Lenovo or IBM directly. The price will start at US $1,899 depending on features and accessories.
