Opera launches fast browser for mobile phones |

  Opera, maker of one of the Net's most familiar web browsers, has released a version for mobile phone users. This version runs on nearly every model, regardless of feature set, needing only Java support to run natively.
The announcement came after the company had finished major trials in Germany and other Northern European countries in the number of 1 million trial users. Customized versions of the software, titled Opera Mini, are sure to follow.
"With Opera Mini most people can start surfing the Web with the mobile phone they have today," said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO of Opera Software.
The key, also, is the speed at which users can surf. The software compresses pages by up to 80 percent and reformats them by way of the company's unique Small-Screen Rendering system. The result is a faster, crisper Web session, with a Google search box built on on the start page for super-easy searching and retrieving.
Opera Mini is currently available for free download via WAP or for a small fee via
SMS.
The browser is now available in English, German, Spanish, French, Russian, Polish, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and Finnish. Other languages are planned later this year.
