Click to ZoomFor those who are eagerly awaiting for VoIP to come out for their cellphones, the wait is now over. On Thursday, Cicero Networks Ltd. announced the launch of a smartphone version of its CiceroPhone which offers converged VoIP features. Going a step further, Cicero also announced a new Call Continuity server, a major new enhancement to the Cicero Controller that paves the way for seamless roaming between both Wi-Fi/GSM and Wi-Fi/CDMA networks.

Users of mobile phones will soon be able to make and receive calls be it Fixed, VoIP or cellular, through a single user interface on their phones by using CiceroPhone. Coupled with the new seamless roaming feature provided by Cicero Controller, operators are now in the position to offer always-on mobile service routing calls based on the availability of networks, cost and quality of service.

Highlighting the key features of the new offering, Ross Brennan, CEO, Cicero said, “Ease of use and transparency of service using dual-mode phones are the key factors which will drive the adoption of converged fixed mobile services. We have been very focused in ensuring our wireless VoIP solutions meet the operator requirements in these areas, which in turn will enable them to deliver compelling new services to their subscribers”.

The CiceroPhone smartphone client is being used first on the Qtek 8310/8300, the first Windows Mobile dual-mode smartphones to come market. The smartphone and PDA client for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices is available now. The Cicero Controller Call Continuity module is due out next month.
