The Google Android platform isn't quite ready for the marketplace, but they're certainly making progress on this alternative to other smartphone operating systems. In the video embedded below, you can see Android head honcho Andy Rubin as he demonstrates two core features on an Android reference design: Quake and Street View.
The 3D processing capabilities of this particular smartphone appear to be quite good, being able to render Quake at a full 30 frames per second. This is particularly impressive when you consider that the processor is only half as fast as the one included in the iPhone. It's not Crysis, but Quake looks pretty good.
In the second half of the video, you get to watch a demonstration of Google Maps Street View, including a demo of the zooming function that you normally enjoy on your home computer. This is the first time that Street View has been implemented on a cell phone.
