Sony Ericsson unveils Z800 – a 3G UMTS clamshell phone offering efficiency and style
3GSM World Congress Cannes, France – Sony Ericsson today revealed a further addition to its growing portfolio of 3G UMTS products. With its fast and easy data access and strong feature-set, the Z800 is a serious productivity tool that will appeal to heavy mobile users who appreciate efficiency and style. It takes full advantage of all new services made accessible by mobile broadband networks, such as video telephony, music and video streaming and download.
Building on the huge success of the V800 for Vodafone, the Z800 will be available in Q2, taking a proven concept to an even bigger audience. It is perfectly tuned to work with high-speed UMTS mobile networks where available. Productivity possibilities include using it as a broadband modem for a laptop, enabling access to corporate e-mail, Internet and intranet, and also Internet browsing and e-mail access on the phone.
Using Bluetooth, IrDA or a USB cable, consumers can quickly synchronize calendar, contacts and other data with their PC. There is also ample storage capacity for Java applications, e-mail, video clips, pictures or music. as the Z800 comes with a 64MB Memory Stick Duo and supports up to 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo.
With the Z800, consumers can experience effortless high-quality mobile imaging. . The 1.3 Megapixel Motion Eye rotating camera, which also has 4x digital zoom, can be started with just one press of the dedicated camera button. With a second press, an image is captured. It’s then ready to be sent off as e-mail, MMS or locally over Bluetooth, infrared or USB cable.
Similarly, just one press of the dedicated video call button is all that’s required to initiate a video call, making it simple to use for business or pleasure. The inbuilt photo light provides illumination to capture video or still images in badly lit environments. Since the photo light is built in the Motion Eye, it allows aiming the light directly at the object which is being photographed.
For those precious moments when not on the phone, the Z800 also functions as a music player activated with only one click on the dedicated media player button. It comes with stereo handsfree and supports MP3/AAC/M4A file formats. To give an extra powerful music experience, the Mega Bass can be switched on. Using Sony Ericsson’s popular PlayNow feature, consumers get one-click access to a top-10 list of MP3 ringtones, and this is updated on a continuous basis. Z800 comes pre-loaded with a fully functional trial version of the popular Worldmate application, providing useful information for global travelers. Exciting 3D Java games and productivity applications such as dictionaries, travel and financial tools, can be downloaded in selected markets at launch from Fun & Downloads.
Combining the Z800 with the Sony Ericsson Bluetooth handsfree HBH-660, users can continue with other tasks while talking. This Bluetooth headset matches the Z800 with its stylish and exclusive design. It’s also easy to see who’s calling on the information display and take or reject calls.
While at home or in the office, the desk speaker stand CSS-25 complements the Z800, offering speaker phone capabilities or the possibility to synchronize the phone with a computer, all the while charging the phone.
Z800i is a Dual mode UMTS-GSM/GPRS phone working on the 900/1800/1900Mhz frequencies.
