Click to ZoomThe Panasonic Toughbook CF 51 is one macho laptop, and today Panasonic has announced a price drop making it affordable for many users who would have never considered such a durable and rugged device as their first option. Technical features aside the Toughbook is a good piece of equipment for jobs where rough handling and security concerns are paramount.

Very few other laptop manufacturers’ offer the rough and tough features which are inherent to the Toughbook. You might get a laptop which allows for impact and keeps the hard disk safe, but not one of them offers it for a situation when the hard disk is an external device. The Toughbook is specially preferred by security agencies that require personnel to detach hard disks when away from their desks.

The single toughest feature of the Toughbook is that it can withstand three drops from thirty inches onto a hard surface. If that’s not tough for a laptop...what is? Other features worth mentioning is the battery life of over 5 hours and the 15-inch UXGA screen that is very bright and clear. Panasonic has made the Toughbook quite approachable as well by making the prices very pocket friendly.

The Panasonic Toughbook CF-51LCMDDBM comes with an Intel Pentium M processor 740 at 1.73GHz, 15" UXGA, 256MB RAM, 40GB HDD, 64MB VRAM, 56K, 1 gig Ethernet NIC 10/100/1000, Intel 802.11a+b+g, COMBO drive, FDD running on Windows XP SP2. It will sell for an estimated street price of US $1,499.
