Atom-Based Asus Eee PC 901 Hits Computex |

 We knew it was coming and most indications were pointing toward the 8.9-inch model. At Computex Taipei 2008, the prophecy came to fruition and we were introduced the the Asus Eee PC powered by an Intel Atom processor. It may not look all that different from the outside, but this thing has quite the processor compared to the paltry Celeron that sat in previous units.
Going hands on with the unit, I didn't find that the Atom processor was any faster and because it was constantly plugged into AC power, there's no way for me to gauge its battery life just yet. The outer shell, aside from the optional design skin applied to this particular unit, is much the same as the non-Atom Eee PC 900. You still get a 8.9-inch display and that tiny Eee keyboard. At least the trackpad is a usable size.
Among the key specs are an integrated SDHC card reader, HD audio, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth, 1.3 megapixel camera, and your choice of Linux or Windows XP. The Linux-flavored Eee PC 901 gets a 20GB SSD whereas the XP unit gets a 12-gigger.
