Dell XPS Lives After All, To Co-Exist with Alienware |

 There was a rumor yesterday that Dell was going to kill the XPS line because it was cannibalizing the sales of Alienware, a high-end gaming company that they acquired a couple years back. It turns out that Dell has no plans to kill off the XPS marque just yet, so XPS will continue to "live on" alongside Alienware.
The early rumor of XPS's impending doom was originally reported by the Wall Street Journal, but it seems that they were somewhat misinformed. There is certainly some crossover between XPS and Alienware. The former started out with a focus on gaming, but has quickly expanding to include all-in-one desktops and more consumer-friendly laptops. A similar trend seems to be happening with Alienware, where they started with gaming and have since expanded into more mainstream markets.
"XPS gaming systems will remain an important part of our gaming product portfolio," said Dell blogger Anne Camden. "We don't plan an early phase-out of these systems as the WSJ incorrectly stated, and in fact will continue to refresh them to keep them on the front edge of gaming." It sounds like Alienware will offer the most elite gaming rigs, whereas XPS will target "gamers who want high performance, but don't want to spec out systems themselves or will accept a lesser machine for a lower price."
