Hewlett-Packard has just unveiled its new PDA smartphone designed primarily for business users.
The HP iPAQ hw6940 is powered by a 416 MHz Intel PXA 270 processor, and runs on Windows Mobile 5.0 Phone Edition with Messaging and Security Feature Pack. The unit also has several business programs that other PDA phones do not have. It is not all work for this unit though, as it could also play music and videos through the Windows Media Player 10 Mobile.
Frame dimensions are at 4.65 x 2.8 x 0.71 inches and its portable size is complemented by its 6.33 oz weight. It has a clear 3-inch transflective TFT screen that has a 240x240 resolution and capable of displaying 64k colors.
Although memory capacity for storage is small at 45MB, its built-in mini-SD slot provides the user with expansion options in case he needs more space for data.
The unit provides the user with a wide variety of connectivity options, which include industry standards such as Bluetooth 1.2, Wi-Fi (802.11b), GPRS and EDGE. The hw6940 also double’s as a navigational device as it features an integrated GPS receiver, coupled with HP Navigation Maps and Program. The software is only a 60-day trial version though and both the maps and the program are available in North America only.
Frequent travelers do not need to carry several phones in order to be assured that they’ll be able to call in any place abroad as the hw6940’s is quad band.
