New Intermec Mobile Point Of Sale System Encourages Customers To Get Out Of Line |

 Intermec Technologies Corp today debuted its new mobile point of sale system, Mobile Point of Service, featuring StoreTrader retail application software. Mobile Point of Service combines all the elements necessary for mobile point of sale - wireless handheld computers with integrated scanners, a mobile printer, wireless network and StoreTrader - to allow retailers plug-and-play ability to complete sales anywhere in the store.
Intermec introduced Mobile Point of Service at the National Retail Federation retail industry trade show in New York.
Mobile point of sale in-store systems are increasingly used to provide shoppers with in-stock and product information, spur add-on selling and allow faster check-out, particularly for high-value impulse or luxury items.
"Mobile Point of Service goes to a customer rather than making a customer come to it," said Joe Bridge, Intermec retail solutions manager. "Whether the system is used to provide inventory information, encourage impulse sales or make a customer's visit to a store unexpectedly pleasant, the end result is a positive retail experience - and an increased retail bottom line."
Mobile Point of Service's integrated approach includes wireless-enabled Intermec 700 handheld computers, with integrated scanners, operating on IEEE 802.11b local area networks, Intermec 782 mobile printers with built-in credit/intelligent card readers and StoreTrader software. StoreTrader provides necessary hooks into existing databases and complete point of sale capability, including credit card scanning. The 700 handheld computer is a palm-sized rugged computer with a fully integrated radio for wide, local and personal area network (WAN, LAN and PAN) communications, making it ideal for moving the point of sale to the customer.
Intermec, which has long provided products and services to many of the world's largest retailers, has a distinguished reputation for back-end retail data collection systems. Mobile Point of Service is part of Intermec's complete line of retail products and services that includes handheld computers, data collection scanners and printers, Intellitag® radio frequency identification systems (RFID), mobile computing systems and wireless networks.
