PocketSurfer 2R Mobile Internet Device Comes with One Year of Free Service |
|
Data charges got you down? Wouldn't it be great if you had a cellular-equipped Internet device that didn't cost you an arm and a leg? The PocketSurfer 2R just may be the ticket.
A followup to the PocketSurfer 2, the PocketSurfer 2R is a mobile Internet device in an ultra-tiny laptop form factor. You get a reasonably-sized display and a full QWERTY keyboard, but this handy number doesn't rely on Wi-Fi for its web-sourced enjoyment. Instead, the data comes by way of a Vodafone GPRS connection. No EDGE. No 3G.
Yes, this means that the connection isn't the fastest thing in the world, but PocketSurfer's proxy servers compress the incoming data, so pages are said to load quite quickly. Better still, the PocketSurfer 2R comes with one year of free service, providing 20 hours each month. Yup, you're billed by the hour, not the mega/gigabyte.
After the one year is up, you can opt to pay about 60 GBP ($100) for another year of the same 20hr/month service or 6 GBP ($10) for an unlimited month-by-month service. Use outside of Vodafone in compatible GPRS-equipped countries is 5 pence (9 cents) a minute. The PocketSurfer 2R itself costs 159 GBP ($275).
