Sprint Nextel may soon reveal 4G plans |

 Sprint Nextel over the next couple of months may let the world know what their 4G plans are. Analysts expect, and the company has basically confirmed, that they will soon reveal a strategy that will guide the use of their vast 2.5GHz spectrum holdings. The speculation has come up because of an upcoming spectrum auction. Sprint is already a major holder in the 2.5GHz spectrum, so they are unlikely to be around in this round of sales. They will however, look to use their holdings to an advantage by positioning themselves at the forefront of the emerging technology.
That positioning will be key for Sprint, because the latest round of auctions is likely to spur the investment needed to bring the new networks to fruition. Sprint's 2.5 GHz network or T-Mobile's W-CDMA network will likely cost about $4 billion to roll out nationwide. Sprint has been actively testing different technologies, including WiMAX and UMTS TD-CDMA for their spectrum. Any announcement will obviously detail their chosen technology.
