Click to ZoomThe new GC89 quad-band PC Card from Sony Ericsson is capable of connecting to both GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz with CSD, GPRS, EDGE and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g networks. The GC79, its predecessor, became available earlier this month on T-Mobile USA. Unfortunately the GC79 only offered Wi-Fi 802.11b connectivity, the GC89 bumps you up to the new 802.11g standard which will give you about 50 Megabits per second download speeds on your local WLAN. When connecting wirelessly to the internet via EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution), upload rates are limited to 247 kbps.

The GC89 will be available starting Q4 2004 for operator acceptance testing and customer trials, with full commercial availability slated for Q1 2005.
