Click to ZoomThe AXIS 206W from Axis Communications claims to be the world's smallest network camera that connects wirelessly to a WLAN. The 206W offers users in the retail, education, small business and small office/home office (SOHO) markets a compact, cost-efficient surveillance solution that does not require cabling for installation.

With IEEE 802.11b Wi-Fi standard support, the need for network cabling is eliminated. It contains a built-in Web server and Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) support, enabling easy set up on the wireless network. Axis' application software, Axis Camera Explorer (ACE), is shipped with the AXIS 206W to allow for image viewing and recording. Users of the network camera can also leverage Axis' free AXIS Internet Dynamic DNS Service when connecting to a local network or the Internet.

"Retail stores, schools, small businesses and the SOHO market are quickly realizing the benefits of wireless networks as they become cost-effective and easy to use," said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager for Axis Communications. "As an innovation leader, Axis is excited to respond to the needs of these markets by offering them the 206W, a superior surveillance solution that leverages wireless networks in a cost efficient way."

To provide unsurpassed image quality and resolution, the AXIS 206W uses Axis' renowned image processing technology, and an advanced CMOS sensor. The AXIS 206W offers resolutions of up to 640 x 480 pixels (VGA format), with a frame rate of up to 30 frames per second in all resolutions.

The AXIS 206W will be available through Axis' distribution channels in July. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $299.
