Wireless USB one step closer with Ultra-Wideband Wireless Technology |

 Wireless USB will be possible via ultra-wideband wireless technology, a standard that will have a shorter range than existing technology such as Wi-Fi, but will be capable of transfer speeds of up to 480mbps. Today at the Intel Developer Forum, Intel updated its progress stating that they have completed key technical specifications. Also, WiMedia Alliance and Multi-band OFDM Alliance (MBOA) industry groups merged to help drive the standardization and adoption of UWB.
The technology will be best suited for wireless data transfers, the exchange of high quality multimedia from wireless devices to desktop computers and other peripherals have never been so easy. Another key element of Ultra Wideband is the fact that it won't interfere with existing wireless technology such as Wi-Fi, WiMAX, and cellular communications.
Expect to see USB thumbnail key drives become a lot more portable with Wireless USB. No longer will you need to reach behind your desk to plug in your keychain, it will be connected before you even know it via Ultra Wideband technology.
The Wireless USB specification is expected to be completed at the end of March and the MBOA medium access controller (MAC) is scheduled to be completed by midyear.
