The Wireless M2A Capsule Camera |

  Given Imaging has designed the first camera capsule meant for human consumption. The Zarlink Semiconductor camera module is used in the M2A endoscope capsule, while light-emitting diodes flash the gastrointestinal tract, images captured with the microchip camera are sent via the RF transmitter to a data recorder worn on the belt of the patient. All this is run by two ultra low-power silver oxide batteries that will operate for 6-8 hours.
The M2A capsule measures 26 x 11 mm, weighs 3.5 grams and can display a 140° field of view of the patients insides at 1:8 magnification.
Images and data are acquired as the M2A capsule passes through the digestive system. This information is then transmitted via an array of sensors secured to the abdomen, to the DataRecorder affixed to a belt worn around the patient's waist. The 8-hour examination can be conducted while a patient continues normal daily activities.
At the end of the day, the patient returns the DataRecorder for processing on the RAPID workstation. The RAPID application enables the physician to view and analyze the Patient Rapid Report (PRR), save individual images or short clips and add comments for consultation and reports.
