Mimobot has set a new record, most presidential flash drives ever created. Well to be fair they are the only ones that have done so thus far, but come on guys you have to see the obvious market for this!

Mimobot created cartoonish versions of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln with working flash drives. Both USB 2.0 drives are available in 8, 16 and 128GB variations for $20, $30 and $130. There is a limited number of the George Washington model, only 1000, so you better jump while they last!

These look like awesome gift ideas, or just something for yourself. My only gripe is Lincoln doesn’t have a top hat, I mean come on, obvious oversight on that one.

Would you pick one or both of these up? Or do you feel that the extra “premium” on the price isn’t worth it?

Google has just released a new extension for Chrome through its Chrome Web Store. This new extension is called Google Drive. It is a tool that allows users to capture and store web based content using none other than Google Drive.

Once on a webpage you want to save, you simply click the Google Drive icon and you can copy and save the webpage, it’s HTML code or a web archive. Another cool feature is having the ability to right click on items and saving just those items to your Google Drive. After upload, Google has new scrolling, % sizing and fit to page options for viewing. You can also comment on specific areas of the pictures that you have uploaded to your Drive.

If you do a lot of snipping with Windows Snipping Tool, this is a big daddy option that provides you with the ability to do a bit more and keep it web based rather than filling your hard drive.

Can you see yourself using this extension? What are some applications that you see yourself utilizing this for?

We’re throwing you a whole load more SSD deals today because we want anyone who hasn’t experienced the blazing speed of an SSD-driven computer, to have absolutely no reason to upgrade. SSD drives are probably the most affordable way to upgrade your old notebook while increasing it’s speed.

You’ll be able to bag yourself an ADATA 128GB 2.5” SATA III SSD for just $94.99 and for the same price another 128 Gig hard drive by OSZ, both on Newegg. They’re both likely to offer similar read/write speeds so it’s up to you to tell us in the comments section what your drive of choice might be.

If that’s not good enough for you, head over to Amazon for a SATA III Solid State Drive by Samsung for just $89.99, or an SSD by Plextor for the same price. You’ll be saving around 50% when compared to retail price, and both companies have good experience when it comes to making quality memory products.

If you’re feeling extra cheeky, the Crucial SATA II drive is up and ready for sale for just $79.99! You may not get as fast speeds as the SATA III SSD drive products, but if you’re switching over from an HDD you will notice a significant difference.

All the SSD drives above are 2.5” 128GB storage units, so if you’re looking for a memory drive upgrade for your PC, be sure to choose your weapon wisely from the deals we’ve found for you.

You have a bunch of important photos and files stored on a CD or flash drive. You go to retreive them, many print some stuff off, and the worst occurs: the data isn’t readable. This nightmare happens more often than we’d wish. I’m sure just about everyone has gone through the loss of precious data in our computer (or post-computer) world. What if your data could truly be permanently saved?

A new technology by Hitachi plans to use quartz glass as a data storage medium, with a goal of marketing the technology to businesses as early as 2015. How does it work? Basically the technology uses a laser that etches into three layers on the crystals at a density a bit higher than a CD. The data can then be read/retrieved via an optical microscope. The bottom line with this method is that the data is safe, which is very important for multi-billion dollar organizations with secret data files to protect. Putting its claim of permanent safe storage to the test, Hitachi even put the glass through two hours of 3500-degree Fahrenheit torture. As they hoped, there was no data loss even under these conditions.

At first, companies will have to send their data in to Hitachi and other vendors with the technology to have it stored into the glass. In time, glass etching storage burners might be as commonplace as a DVD burner is today.

Remember when there was a vast divide between the prices for hard drives and the prices for solid state drives? Well, that gap is quickly shrinking and it’s even smaller today because you can get up to 60% off Crucial’s SSDs on Amazon.

Just in time for the back to school season, the Crucial m4 2.5-inch solid state drive is selling for between 45% off and 62% off, depending on your capacity of choice. This is a great upgrade for your computer, since it gives a huge performance boost, making you work, play and study that much faster. These are all SATA 6Gb/s drives.

The Crucial 128GB m4 is on sale for $79.99, which is $133 off the regular list price of $212.99. The 256GB drive is $164.99 (down from $299.99) and the 512GB drive is $349.99 (down from $699.99). If you consider that you’re saving up to $350–in the case of the 512GB SSD–this is a pretty killer deal. And since it’s Amazon, you get free shipping too. It’s today only, so act quickly!

On that same page, you’ll also find some great deals on Lexar JumpDrive USB 3.0 flash drives.

Amid a vast sea of existing online storage options, such as Dropbox or iCloud, Google has now launched its own Google Drive storage solution. The new solution offers 5GB of free cloud-based storage and – well frankly, it seems like nothing that special. We already have so many existing options that offer basically the same experience. Like most of the competition it has a free option and many premium choices, in the Drive’s case that means you can stick with the free 5GB or move to 25 GB, 100 GB or 1 TB, for only $2.49, $4.99 and $49.00 per month, respectively.

So what can make Google Drive stand out? I’d wager that the leverage of its existing online applications, like Google Docs, could certainly help. Docs is now built right in to the Drive, letting users work easily with other people for collaboration on documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. The search by keyword options in Google Drive also seem to be fairly robust. The biggest piece of leverage it probably has going for it is Android. More than likely we will see deep integration with the drive in future revisions of Android that make Drive more appealing than current alternatives, such as DropBox.

What do you think of Google’s new “Drive”, any chance it will really give is competition a run for its money, or instead, will it fall flat? Three people briefed on Apple’s private talks that didn’t want to be named told BusinessWeek that Apple will be able to scan customers' digital music libraries in iTunes and quickly mirror their collections on its own servers. If the sound quality of a particular song on a user's hard drive isn't good enough, Apple will be able to replace it with a higher-quality version.

Rumours are floating around that Apple will preview its cloud service as early as June at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. Three people briefed on Apple’s private talks that didn’t want to be named told BusinessWeek that Apple will be able to scan customers’ digital music libraries in iTunes and quickly mirror their collections on its own servers. If the sound quality of a particular song on a user’s hard drive isn’t good enough, Apple will be able to replace it with a higher-quality version.

Apple has reached agreements with three of the four major music labels and is close to reaching terms with the fourth. Since Apple has probably paid a hefty sum for the cloud music licenses, it’s unclear how much of an effect this will have on consumers. One possibility is that the cloud-streaming service will be bundled into the MobileMe subscription service that costs $99 a year. Amazon’s Cloud Drive comes free with 5 GB of storage, and offers upgrades that include 20 GB for $20 a year. Google’s Music Beta will offer users the ability to store up to 20,000 songs without charge. Price-wise, there’s not much of a competition, but Amazon and Google haven’t been able to reach agreements with any labels.

After Amazon revealed their Cloud Drive, which allows users to upload their entire collections onto the company’s servers, the process forced Amazon to store multiple copies of the same songs. The labels were angered that Amazon stored the songs on their servers without paying the labels any extra fees. Google negotiated with the music labels for more than a year to create their cloud music service, then launched an unlicensed service when agreements didn’t go through. The music industry’s concern was that search results in Google and YouTube often point to pirated music. It seems the record companies won’t cease fighting cloud services until every last penny is taken from the pocket of the consumer and placed in the cold, dead hands of the record executives. With Apple willing to pay out the record companies, we’ll see if consumers will be free from the threats of the labels or if they will have to pay a big price for Apple’s cloud.

Clickfree, the innovators on the cutting edge of backup technology, have made backing-up multiple computers even easier for both home and office users. Leveraging your wireless network connection, Clickfree allows users to backup as many Window and Mac computers as necessary with their new Clickfree Wireless product.

Being showcased at this year’s CES, the new Clickfree Wireless has totally eliminated the need to download, install and configure software as part of the backup solution. Basically new users just need to plug in the Clickfree device once into each computer on their network for the initial backup and the whole process is pre-configured. The device can then be placed anywhere in the home or office with a wireless signal and it will do the rest, automatically backing-up the desired computers.

Added bonuses for the networking-deficient are that you don’t need to know anything about your wireless network and you can restore files wirelessly. Plus the mere fact that the backup automatically completes to the external hard drive is enough to make the product worth its weight in gold.

If you’re down at CES check out the product live at the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall, booth #36512 or see the demo on their website (http://www.clickfree.com/products_c3.php).

Retailing at $179.99 for the 500GB and $249.99 for the 1TB version we think the product is a steal for almost everyone. We’re told larger capacities should be out in Q1 2011 though so it may be worth the wait if you’re in the market for a backup solution.
