Being a father isn’t easy. You want to be with your kids and keep them safe, but you need to know when to give them a little freedom and trust. Then there is also the matter of getting your daily dose of gadgets and hunter drones. It’s a tricky balance!

This was the dilemma Paul Wallich faced with his son, but rather than remain overly protective and personally walk him to the bus each morning, he chose the altogether more awesome option of building a quadcopter drone to track his son to ensure he kept out of trouble.

The full details of the quadcopter can be seen over at IEEE Spectrum, but basically the drone has been designed to lock on to a GPS tracker hidden in his son’s backpack. The drone then follows his son for a set distance ensuring he is safe before returning back to base.

Not only a great concept for keeping your kids safe, but also an excellent way to improve your child’s imagination, who can now walk to school pretending they are being chased by Terminator style robotic drones.

Let’s face it, most smartphone users out there use there devices for what? Random apps, emails, a few text messages? How about calling? Not so much, huh? The truth is that ‘calling people’ is probably at the backburner of reasons why you make use of your smart-phone, ironically. With that in mind, Web video artist Adam Sacks has created a web parody announcing the new “iPhone 5”… which is essentially a DSLR with no web connectivity, no apps, no dialing, no nothing. The idea here is to create a great camera that takes pictures for sharing through Instagram and Facebook, and that’s it.

Sound odd? The sad part is that it’s true that many users do nothing more than snap pictures and share through the social world. Anyhow, check out the video below and let us know what you think of Adam’s unique take on the iPhone 5. Keep in mind that this is a joke though, folks. At least this was meant as a parody, unlike the unintentional joke of preordering the iPhone way ahead of an official announcement.

Are you ready for the pending zombie apocalypse? Before you go find a baseball bat and a boomstick, you may want to place your pre-order for the Hyundai Zombie Survival Machine. The concept is being prepared for the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con.

What’s cool is that Hyundai partnered up with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman on the project. While Kirkman admittedly doesn’t “know a lot about cars,” he does “know a lot about the zombie apocalypse and what I would like to have to survive.” Having satellite radio and dual zone climate control is probably less important than making sure that the undead aren’t going to smash through your windshield and eat your brains for breakfast.

Hyundai also worked with Design Craft Fabrication to make sure that the design is practical and not just cool-looking. There’s that prominent zombie plow with spikes in the front, since you’ll be mowing down some of your undead neighbors to get to your next location for example. You’ll also see slatted armored window coverings, a roof hatch, an electric rear trunk, all terrain tires, spikes that jut out of the wheels, a CB radio and PA system, and plenty of weapons storage compartments. It’s like the Batmobile, but for fighting walkers.

And underneath all of that modification is little more than a humble Hyundai Elantra. This is certainly an interesting marketing campaign on the part of the Korean automaker.

There have been a ton of rumors about upcoming features in the iPhone 5, but here’s one that probably isn’t going to be happening. A humorous little video has hit the net that shows a new feature of the iPhone that should keep theft down to a minimum. If you try to use the iPhone and input the wrong code three times, it basically self-destructs thanks to good ole’ Siri. She’ll crack the screen, and no thief is going to be getting a hold of your precious data then!

Awesome idea, though something tells me that Apple isn’t considering this one. You never know though, an iSelf_Destruct feature could be just what the iPhone is missing.

Take a look at the video for yourself, below:

Yesterday was April Fools’ Day, i’m sure most of you didn’t realize it. So what else do large companies with over the top budgets on attempting to create viral videos do? They attempt to make us laugh by revealing fake products with fake announcements. Some of these are quite stupid, actually, most of them are, but you can decide for yourself, have a gander below.

Kodak LIVEPrint for Kittens

Yes, Kodak is going through some tough times right now, but that doesn’t mean they’re not continuing to innovate. Printing photos isn’t good enough anymore, so they developed LIVEPrint which will actually let you print live kittens. Awww….

Conan O’Brien Buys Mashable

After seeing the “atrocious job” that Pete Cashmore was doing with the Mashable, comedian Conan O’Brien decided to buy the site, oust Cashmore, and take over as CEO.

Sony VAIO Q Series Ultrabook

Ultrabooks are smaller than their larger notebook counterparts, but they’re not small enough. So, the Sony VAIO Q was born. It’s an ultrabook that’s the size of a quarter and it happens to be powered by a Core i9 3.66GHz processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, and a 1.25×0.75-inch full 1080p LED backlit display.

Microsoft Windows Pager

Microsoft is trying to make a splash with Windows Phone, but what about the days when people just had buzzers and had to call back? It’s a throwback with a touchscreen: here’s the Windows Pager from their Facebook page.

Razer SnakeEyes

What if you had Google Goggles for real? What if you could enhance your gaming experience as a result? That’s what you get with SnakeEyes, a wearable HUD that basically turns your life into a video game, identifying objects, fellow gamers, and whatever else.

Hungry Hungry Hippos for iPad

The iCade from ThinkGeek started out as an April Fools’ gag, but it turned into a real product. The same thing might happen with this, which is essentially a platform and dock for your iPad that turns it into a Hungry Hungry Hippos game. This might just work, considering the multi-touch capabilities of Apple’s tablet.

Toshiba Tablet Shapes

Who said that your tablet had to be a rectangle? Shapes by Toshiba challenges that notion with Oblong (Oval), Rhombus, and Amore (Heart). What shape are you? What shapes you?

WestJet Child-Free Cabins

Are you tired of flying and being bugged by all the crying babies in the cabin? WestJet is fixing that by letting you have all those kids as checked-in luggage.

Virgin Volcanic

Titanic director James Cameron may have gone to the bottom of the sea, but Sir Richard Branson wants to go to the center of the Earth. So, he has created Virgin Volcanic. The post reminds us that only 500 people have been to space, but no one has gone to the core of an active volcano.

8-Bit Google Maps

As with every other year, Google had one of the best pranks. This time around, they unveiled 8-Bit Google Maps for the NES. Yes, the original Nintendo Entertainment System. The graphics look like they’re inspired by the 8-bit era of gaming, more specifically like Dragon Quest. They even put in some extra gags like blowing into the cartridge and having a dial-up modem built into the NES cartridge.

Gmail Tap

Typing on the smaller touchscreen of your smartphone can sometimes be a pain, so Google wanted to make that easier by… bringing back Morse code. Your keyboard is replaced by just two keys: dot and dash.

Chrome Multitask Mode

Remember when Dual View for the Chrome browser was announced? That was kinda neat, but what if you could use two mice in two separate windows at the same time? This takes multitasking to a whole new level.

You should be disappointed if you came in here looking for some smartphone info or an article regarding a big medical breakthrough. But if you have a hobby of going for a beer bottle every time you get disappointed, you are going to love this prescription. The Prescription Bottle Beer Holder from Gadgets and Gear will allow you to get used to prescription bottles, the things you will be facing a lot after your Liver fails.

The beer holder, which has been designed like a big prescription bottle with funny instructions (won’t be funny while throwing up), will keep your beer ice cold and your hands dry, and might help to trick your wife to think that you are doing something healthy (actually it won’t, unless you are married to this lady).

And if you need another prescription, there’s no need to visit your doctor. You just have to head back to the fridge, provided you remember where it is. So, this one can also keep the doctor away (sorry Apple).

But make sure that it does not give you the urge to mix alcohol with drugs (terribly sorry if you got that idea from us) and do note that this one does not come with a child proof cap. Head here if you want to get the Prescription Bottle Beer Holder which comes with a price tag of $12.95.

In Football, if you mistake your opponent’s head for the ball, you are out of the game. In Baseball, if you test the strength of your bat on the head of your opponent, you might not play ever again. In Ultimate Tazer Ball, if you pass an electric current through your opponent’s body with a stun gun, you may just end up being player of the game. The sport actually lets you cause serious injuries to the members of the opposing team, sounds perfect.

But it’s not only about stun guns, although that is the only thing that makes the sport a bit interesting. A ball, which looks similar to a huge beachball, is also involved and the players have to simply run around with the ball (for putting it into the opponent’s net) and in between make sure that they do not get tasered.

The rules of the sport are not very complicated. You have two teams with four players each competing for getting the ball into the opposing team’s net. Only the player who is carrying the ball can be given the shock treatment. Well, that’s about it.

Now you know the reason why people think that the game isn’t real although a video of it on YouTube has been watched over 1 million times. At least they are trying to make the game a bit more exciting by using mean expressions in between games. And they are also claiming that the tazing is very painful, but we understand that the taser used is not as powerful as the ones used by the police.

But Canadian Eric Prum, the sport’s founder, is serious about the sport and will be organizing a tournament in March in Bangkok. The four teams participating are Philadelphia Killawatts (are these guys serious?), San Diego Spartans, LA Nightlight and Toronto Terror.

As long as more and more mobile phones are churned out, we will also see the arrival of new phone cases. But do we really need those cases? According to some people, we don’t. But do you really want to end up holding a phone similar to the one posted alongside? Or worse than that, buy a new one?

According to an article on Gizmodo, phone cases are unnatural. The phones that are painstakingly designed by different manufacturers should be allowed to “roam free, nude, as nature intended”, showing off the beautiful designs to everyone. And it’s not worth all the protection as people will end up upgrading to the latest device as soon as their two-year contract is up. The author has even said that a few scratches will also be a great memory, a reminder of who you used to be. And apparently the techies at the above said website are united on the matter as revealed by a quick survey.

But we are sticking to another formula, no phone case = broken phone. And every human being has the tendency to become clumsy at some point in their lifetime. And most families have at least one Bart Simpson type in their home to bring about a few scratches on their most beloved gadgets. So which way do you go?

We can take as example one of the most popular devices out there – the Apple iPhone. Both the faces of the iPhone are made up of glass and those faces have been placed at a raised position above the frame. And the bezel around the edge of the glass is very tiny as well. The conclusion: the device has not been designed to be used without a case.

And of course, it’s fun to show off our latest tech to everyone. But what if there is nothing left to show off? And most people find their device as precious things; they want to keep it with them as long as possible. There is no two year limit to their gadget love. And memories? Seriously, do you want to end up remembering the night you got so drunk that you used your phone as a foot rug?

And we are tempted to say something about that nature intended thing that they were talking about. Evolution did not design man at first with clothes on. Does that mean we should also set ourselves free?

If you clicked on this post hoping to see a bit of iBoobie, sorry, it’s not going to happen. Matt Bomer, the hero in White Collar, would have never guessed about what was going to come at him during a Q&A with his fans at the SoHo Apple Store. Well, he didn’t and was not prepared for the stoned lunatic who stormed the stage, naked.

Bomer was promoting the third season of White Collar at the store when he had to endure the boob flash, thoughts (good or bad) about which are definitely going to be in his wildest dreams for quite some time.

This is what a shocked Apple Store customer who was present at the live show had to say on the matter via Tumblr:

“Went to go see Matt Bomer at the Soho Apple store – he’s promoting the second part of the third season of White Collar, premiering tomorrow. Cristen and I sat in the back on the side. This older blonde woman with a drawn on mustache sat next to Cristen, and she REEKED of marijuana. Midway through the thing, she TAKES OFF HER TOP, stands on a chair, completely topless, and starts screaming about how she is the naked paparazzo and how we should all go visit her website and see her drag queen friends perform blahblahblah. Cristen was hiding in my lap because this lady was right next to her, and Matt Bomer had this insanely giddy grin on his face and is squealing THIS IS THE BEST THING TO HAVE EVER HAPPENED IN MY CAREER!!!!!!!! He also proceeded to bring it up at every chance he possibly could throughout the rest of the night. ONLY IN NYC, MY FRIENDS. ONLY IN NYC”.

No word on what happened to the stoned woman after the act. But we do know that some of you out there have found one more reason to pay a visit to the nearest Apple Store.

Some Youtuber decided to put his GoPro on the ground to tie his shoelaces or something, when a seagull ran towards him at that very moment and somehow managed to latch onto the camera and take off into the night sky. Conveniently, opica1983 had left the camera running, prepare for rooftops and two blocks of Cannes, France seagull style.

It’s surprising that the seagull didn’t drop the camera but landed with it on some castle. Then he began poking the thing around and yelling like a crazy seagull thief taunting his victim as he runs off with her purse. He probably figured out that the camera wasn’t edible and flew away.

This isn’t the first act of animal curiosity, in May, a video surfaced showing a lioness licking and chewing on a filmographers camera. Then picking it up and carrying it off into the savannah. The lioness set the undamaged camera down not too far from the photographer. The photographer raved at how “it kept on filming all the time it was in the lion’s mouth.” Whether it’s a viral commercial attempt by the camera manufacturer to show how tough and resilient their cameras are, or an actual theft by cunning animals remains to be known.
