We gave you the details this past weekend that there was an iOS 5 jailbreak in the works from Pod2g (Chronic Dev-team) and MuscleNerd from (iPhone Dev-team). Well, low and behold, today the group has released Redsn0w 0.9.9b9b, adding native support for iOS 5.0.1 but still unable to crack the iPhone 4s and iPad 2. Pod2g blogged how “The untether fails right now because I’m having processor cache issues.”

This jailbreak will allow most devices to manually load IPSWs. If you have an iPhone 3GS and old bootrooms you can create IPSW files without blobs. However, this jailbreak is still tethered.

There are also some reports of lost functionality with the jailbreak, like loss of the ability to download over-the-air operating system updates from Apple is an obvious, and some new problems with the Skype app for iOS. Mobile Support Forum has a thread going with more details and download links to the files.

Combining portability with quick and easy use, Samsung has developed two new point and “share” camcorders, the Samsung Full HD HMX-P300 and the HMX-P100. Pocket-sized and fashionable, the sleek, black cameras are designed for all you social-networkers.

Through the unique One Touch sharing feature and built in Intelli-Studio 2.0 software, the P300 and P100 allow users to use the built in USB arm to upload videos automatically to websites, eliminating long waits for file transfers so that videos can be posted as quickly as possible. Because you know, if your dog ran out of 7-11 with a bag of hickory sticks, everyone should know about it.

The P300 comes with both 3x Optical Zoom, ensuring brilliantly clear footage, and Pivot Mode, making it possible to shoot video from any angle. The P100 makes use of the innovative 5M BSI (Black Side Illuminated) CMOS sensor which dramatically improves the quality of low light recording and cuts noise and light distortions.

A number of features are found in both cameras, making recording as easy as possible: Auto Focus and Smart Auto automatically adjust colour, focus and brightness, while the Record-Pause allows users to take brief pauses before resuming recording within the same file. The P300 and P100 can also function as cameras, boasting 8M Pixel and 5M Pixel still-image capture respectively.

The P300 can be had for $199 in March, with the P100 coming out at $150 next month.

Shooting & Sharing Videos Made Easy with the Pocket-sized Samsung Full HD HMX-P300 and HMX-P100

Capture and share Full HD quality videos wherever you go with the latest Samsung point-and-share camcorder

2011 International CES
LAS VEGAS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, today announced the launch of the two latest point-and-share camcorders in its 2011 portfolio. The Full HD HMX-P300 and HMX-P100 have been designed for those who love sharing videos with friends and family, and enjoy capturing film spontaneously and uploading just as quickly. Stylish, pocket-sized and affordable, the HMX-P300 and HMX-P100 have been created to be carried anywhere, and make uploading and sharing special moments both easy and fun.

“The HMX-P300 and HMX-P100 are the perfect point-and-share camcorders for customers who get as much enjoyment in sharing their videos as they do from capturing them”
The HMX-P300 and HMX-P100 follow the Samsung HMX-E10 model, bringing with them the latest developments in Samsung imaging technology, ultimately comprising some of the best value point-and-share camcorders on the market. Key developments including a 5M BSI (Back Side Illuminated) CMOS sensor, which dramatically improves low-light recording and HD movie recording, are available in the P100. The HMX-P300 and HMX-P100 are also the ultimate point-and-share camcorders for those who want to upload their videos quickly and easily. Through the new One Touch Sharing feature, users can select which website they want to upload files to directly from the LCD screen. Both point-and-share camcorders come with advanced Intelli-Studio 2.0 software pre-installed so it’s easy to connect to a PC and start sharing straight away.

The HMX-P300 is also specially adapted to make video capture easy from any angle, by including a 3x Optical Zoom and Pivot Recording Mode, enabling you to capture greater detail at any occasion, such as concerts or sporting events, in horizontal or vertical frames. The 3x Optical Zoom allows you to record in clear and brilliant detail while on-the-go, without sacrificing video quality. The 3” 230K pixel Touch LCD screen can also rotate to give multiple shooting angles that allow the user a full, clear view of their subject without sacrificing the shot through portrait or landscape orientation. To make sure that you don’t miss any of the action, the Samsung HMX-P100 is also built with an LCD screen that has an 80-degree viewing angle, so no matter how you’re holding your point-and-share camcorder, you’ll enjoy a clear view every time. Both point-and-share camcorders can also function as cameras, with 8M Pixel (HMX-P300) and 5M Pixel (HMX-P100) still image capture.

“The HMX-P300 and HMX-P100 are the perfect point-and-share camcorders for customers who get as much enjoyment in sharing their videos as they do from capturing them,” said Mr. Hyunho Chung, Executive Vice President and Head of the Digital Imaging Business, Samsung Electronics. “Sharing our videos with friends and family through social networking sites and blogs is one of the great pleasures in capturing live footage, and we’ve used the latest Samsung technology to make this easier than ever. These point-and-share camcorders are ideal for anyone who has a busy lifestyle, but still enjoys capturing and sharing eye-catching moments on-the-go. They’re small and stylish enough for you to want to take everywhere.”

New experiences in quality and usability

The HMX-P100 and P300 are built to make sharing movies easier than ever through the One Touch Sharing feature. Once the point-and-share camcorder is connected to a PC via the built-in USB arm, videos will upload automatically, saving time with file transfers and making sure you never forget to share special memories with friends and family. In addition, the HMX-P300 and HMX-P100 can also capture great still photographs, eliminating the need to carry around a separate camera.

Both the HMX-P100 and HMX-P300 are built with mobility in mind. Using Micro SD technology, the camcorders are much smaller and more compact than conventional point-and-share camcorders. The slim bodies of the point-and-share camcorders can easily fit into a jacket pocket or handbag, while the built-in USB arms and USB charging features enable users to charge batteries and share images simultaneously without needing an additional cable.

The point-and-share camcorders include features to create the best possible image quality out of every situation. The innovative 5M BSI (Back Side Illuminated) CMOS sensor featured on the HMX-P100 records with twice the sensitivity of regular CMOS sensors to reduce image noise and distortion and dramatically enhance recording quality in low-light situations. The AF lens of the HMX-P100 also makes it easy to capture bright and clear movies anytime and anywhere.

In addition, the HMX-P300 and HMX-P100 include a number of smart features that make recording simple. The Auto Focus and Smart Auto functions on both models automatically adjust focus and shooting modes according to factors such as color, subject and brightness. Both point-and-share camcorders also feature new Record Pause technology, allowing users to take a brief pause in filming before re-starting recording within the same file. This feature makes is much easier to edit and share footage, and ensure that users have the best video capturing experience.

The report comes after Transportation secretary, Ray LaHood announced that the organization is looking at ways to ensure drivers will not be able to make calls in a car. “There’s a lot of technology out there that can disable phones and we’re looking at that.” said LaHood. Although this could pose some problems when emergency situations arise, it would be assumed that the technology, if it does become implemented in future vehicles, would be NFC (near field communication) based and would allow the user to make a call after stepping away from the vehicle.

Though the DoT is exploring, spokeswoman Olivia Alair wanted to make sure everyone understands that the department is just “examining this technology,” and has “no intention” to require it at the moment. LaHood’s campaign has focused on “raising awareness, getting good laws on the books, stepping up enforcement, and most importantly, taking personal responsibility,” she added.

Would you feel safer having cell phones completely blocked from being used in cars? That also means passengers would not be able to make calls. Or is the hands-free mandate enough to satisfy you’re safety needs?

This holiday season could be all about tablets and smartphones, as those are easy buys and will guarantee a smile on the face of the gift receiver, but what about all those other tech toys out there that well, may not be so typical or expected? We’ll, we’ve put together a list of some things we would love to see under our tree this year, so you can bet that any gadget-lover out there would feel the same way. Here they are in no particular order:

Sony PS-LX300USB USB Stereo Turntable

Vinyl is not dead. In fact, it’s picking up again, especially with special edition releases from various artists and hard to find rare titles. You could also hit the garage sale scene, or dig out those LPs from the basement. Converting your tracks to digital with this turntable will still maintain some of that analog goodness, a bit of crackly warmth in the recording makes it unique and one of a kind.

Does the thought of removing your gloves to answer a call or send an important message from your touchscreen smartphone in the dead cold winter make you shiver? Perhaps you’ve opted for a stylus and are getting tired of its lack of accuracy?

Clearly, everybody who uses a Smartphone would prefer a capacitive touchscreen over the resistive alternative, as capacitive touchscreens offer much better precision and feedback and the uptake from the capacitive touchsceen divulges its superiority over the other.

However, until recently, the perfect touchscreen that would accept input from a gloved finger as well as a stylus, and be responsive as today’s capacitive screens was a white whale of the cell phone industry, a thing to be dealt with in the future! The capacitive touchscreens currently lack the compatibility with using an input device other than finger.

Hitachi has brought that future in the present, though. At this year’s IFD International conference, Hitachi displayed to the world that it has overcome the problem on their new capacitive touchscreen display by adding a controller chip that detects input from non-conducting items and turns it into capacitance. The end result: an all-purpose display that receives input from any object, which is destined to be popular with phone and tablet manufacturers.

With the versatile touchscreen that accepts input from any device, Hitachi is the first company to have made such a huge breakthrough in the mobile world, which could address the U. S. and European markets; as well as the Asian markets, where handwriting recognition and stylus input are required by many.

Hitachi unfortunately won’t be marketing the device until the end of 2011, so until then, grab your conductive finger-tip gloves from Fivepoint.

If you’re not one to be caught perverting your capacitive touchscreen device with a sausage, perhaps these magic finger gloves would be more “proper.” If you dont see snow outside, you probably wont need these. The Fivepoint gloves are made of 95% pure wool and 5% mixed fibers to keep your fingers warm while tapping on your favorite touchscreen device in the cold winter months. The real technology lies inside the conductive fingertips. Etre, a company from some god forsaken land of frozen fingers (UK) just as where I am now, is selling them. Whether it be for an iPhone, iPad, Galaxy Tab, so long as the screen is capacitive, you’ll want the Fivepoints. Shipping in “Oxford Blue with Grey fingertips” with “more styles coming soon!” the Fivepoint conductive fingertip gloves are £24.99 GBP (about $40 USD).

[Etre Store]

Google has entered Windows Phone 7, but this time through a back door! While it commands the lion’s share of all searches, be it a desktop search (a 66% share for Google), or be it on smart phones – where it takes 95% of the search pie, Google was initially nowhere to be found on the much hyped WP7.

Nearly every browser on the desktop, iPhone, or Blackberry, allows the user to choose their search engine. However, Windows Phone 7 has tied up with Bing as its default search engine, which means that Bing would block any attempt to browse using any other search engine from the start screen.

To compete with Bing on WP7, Google has developed its own app – Google Search for Windows Phone 7, which it launched on November 11. As Google Mobile team programmers Jon Skeet and Nick Radicevic note in a blog post, this app “provides quick and convenient access to a rich set of search results.” Users can download the app for free for all Windows Phone 7 devices and languages from Windows Mobile Marketplace.

Google’s search app uses the phone’s GPS to localize searches, gives suggestions as you type, and keeps track of previous searches. The search results appear in a browser window, which allows access to images, local and news results as well, the features missing on Bing app for WP7.

Since Microsoft has all but made it a mandate for phone carriers that its Bing search engine be deeply integrated on Windows phone 7, it would be interesting to watch whether this move bails Microsoft out of its flagging smartphone market share, or users download Google’s Search app for WP7 and ding the Bing!

A number of gadgets, mostly those that are hailed as the technological miracles, do have a tendency of luring us in by popping up at trade shows. Disappointingly, very few of them do manage to make it to the stores shelves while we can still remember them. However, according to fresh reports doing the rounds at the FPD International 2010 trade show, the Samsung mobile display is definitely not looking to be included in the forget-me list. Samsung hints that their 4.5 inch flexible AMOLED might actually be very near to completion as a mass produced unit.

The latest reports also disclose that Samsung has decided to go in for a plastic version instead of the more conventional glass substrate. This makes sense too, as the former is bound to be much more convenient for mass production. The 800 x 480 resolution is really quite exciting and we just hope that the availability of a new fangled gadget utilizing the technology is not too far away .

The news has also seemed to have spawned a number of arguments lately with most of them being just a little apprehensive about the super-portability factor. The durability factor is also expected to come in to play here. A phone with a flexible AMOLED screen is making us curious indeed! A panel which can be folded up to a small radius of 1 cm, springing back into the original form without losing any of its functionality is still a little too difficult to fathom.

The hype generated around this AMOLED may be worthwhile for its makers, especially if it manages to live up to its promise of making the smartphone even smarter or wearable.

The Nintendo gaming system has won fans all over the world with its amazing capabilities. The uniqueness of the games and novelty of the machine makes the NES a must have for every true video game aficionado. If you like to do your own hack jobs and fabricate unique looking products then you should definitely have a look at the NES cartridge wireless router.

According to a recent DIY project, you can easily create a wireless router out from a spare NES cartridge. Yes, however unbelievable it may sound, the news is actually true. Recently, one of the true tech-hackers built his very own NES wireless router and released the pictures over the internet. According to the Unconventional Hacker, you can actually fit in a Belkin wireless router into one of the spare NES gaming cartridges. It’s not very difficult. In the first step you will have to disassemble the cartridge . Then you will have to go ahead and disassemble the wireless router and then you will simply have to swap the two boards. The hard part is when you will have to re-solder a couple of capacitors on the Belkin wireless router to fit it into the NES cartridge perfectly. The soldering job should be done very carefully, or else you may be left with a malfunctioning wireless router. After you have fitted the wireless router into the NES board, put it back together just like before and voila! You have your very own NES wireless router. Now you have the bragging rights to the coolest set of hardware that will trump all your friends.

A new discussion has arisen from a teaser released this week picturing a smartphone covered with smoke. Next to the device, there is an invitation from HTC: “Come see what HTC has dreamt up 15 September in London”. It seems that HTC is pretty confident about their smartphone releases. However, recently leaked specifications from the yet to be released HTC phone makes us believe that they don’t know what they’re doing at all – features that have been available for some time now are still missing.

Although the teaser image does not give much information about the device, Photoshopers have managed to reveal some parts of it, which clearly leads us to believe a recently leaked phone: the Desire HD. At first, we thought it would be a nice phone, with high-end specs. Yet it seems to be missing some key features, such as the earlier mentioned HDMI-out, front facing camera, and kickstand.
That makes us wonder what exactly is HTC proud about? Is the Desire HD going to be the next flagship smartphone? And will they accept that their flagship has lesser specs than devices that are already out? We hope to have answers on September 15th from London.
