NZ SPCA Raises Awareness For Shelter Dogs With Porter, The Driving Dog

Everyday lost and abandoned dogs are left in shelters, never being adopted and many of which end up put to sleep. The Auckland, New Zealand SPCA decided to do something about it. Nokia to Release Update to Fix Nokia Lumia 920 Camera Issues

While the Lumina 920 is a solid phone overall, its biggest draw is the PureView rear camera capability. The camera is amazing at image-stabilization and low light but has been receving complaints about daylight phots being blurry. Rumored iPad Mini 2 in the Works, will have Retina Display

Creators at Apple are evidently already working hard on a new higher resolution and lighter version of the iPad mini. This report comes from the Apple rumor mill DigiTimes, though it isn’t the first time we’ve heard it. Keep in mind that DigiTime’s record for getting things right is certainly mixed, though it did recently predict Apple’s addition of retina displays in the Apple Macbook and managed to get it right.

This Wednesday Microsoft announced that with the launch of the Windows Phone 8 platform in October, their Windows Phone application submissions have increased a staggering 40%. Because of this huge increase they decided to keep the Windows Phone Store open longer during the holiday season.

Acer recently released the Acer C7 and now they are back at it again, this time with the Acer C710-2605 Chromebook. Redbox to Launch Streaming Service

Redbox, the movie rental kiosk company has been planning a partnership with Verizon to attempt to break into the video streaming market for some time, but it looks like it is all coming together now. Associated Press reported Redbox Instant by Verizon is set to be launched late December as invite-only for the time being.

iPhone Heart Monitor Due Next Month: AliveCor Gains FDA Approval

The FDA has approved AliveCor’s iPhone Heart Monitor and will go on sale in the United States next month.

The AliveCor uses an iPhone 4 or 4s smartphone to record, display, store, transfer and evaluate singe channel electrocardiogram (ECG) rhythems. The Class II device consists of a self-powered case that attaches to the back of an iphone. The case communicates wirelessly with an associated heart monitor application on the phone.

HTC to Release 3 Phones to China Mid-December

HTC is attempting to take over the Chinese market by launching three variations of it’s 2012 phones for China. These phones should be available mid-December. The HTC J Butterfly (American Droid DNA) a 1080p smartphone will be released in the common black but also a brown and white colors. Local variants of the Windows Phone 8-based HTC 8x and HTC 8s are also to be released.

This new phone was clearly set to be released on November 16th along with the One X. The One X got released, but there has been no word on the HTC One VX. Further adding to the mystery, when stores were contacted, they had no idea what the phone even was and it also wasn’t found anywhere on AT&T’s website.

VLC Turns to Kickstarter to Gather Funds for Windows 8 App

The team behind the VideoLAN VLC media player has officially announced plans to develop a native app for Windows 8. Of course building an app for a new ecosystem isn’t free, there is staffing and other expenses to consider. While VLC has traditionally turned to user donations to help fund its endeavors, they are attempting to take this release to the next level by asking for help through a Kickstarter campaign.
