The massive Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) can reach the “speed of jets,” if it can keep up with the SR-71 Blackbird, that would mean 2070 mph. Having no pilots is apparently to lower risk for their men when patrolling enemy skies. It’s main purpose is to carry out long-distance surveillance between various continents around the world. Now it won’t be traveling mach 20 like DARPA’s hypersonic glider, but it could still very well go missing if satellite communications are interrupted.

South Korea deploys grenade launching robots at border

Anyone planning on illegally crossing the North/South Korean border better think twice, the government has deployed a couple sentry robots that can sense heat and motion and deploy 40mm grenades at the target, or just fire off a couple thousand rounds of ammunition its way. Audio and video is sent back to the command center allowing them to make the call on whether or not the response requires such offensive action. Check the video below for a peak at the command UI.

1.7 million iPhone 4 units sold since launch

iPhone 4 sales reached 1.7 million units in just 3 days

I’ll have to admit, the iPhone 4 has been getting much more negative feedback from owners than we had expected. Despite all this, the smartphone does have the most advanced hardware and features of any phone to date. Apple has sold 1.7 million units since the June 24 launch, that’s in just three days and it’s expected to keep going once additional countries are added to the shipping list.

With all the iPhone 4 glitz and glamour out there, some other options may get left behind. The HTC Droid Incredible which we looked at just a few weeks back is quite the challenger, but the EVO seems to be a more advanced offering from HTC. There’s also the possibility of a new Google phone, perhaps a Nexus 2, coming to combat the iPhone 4. So what gives you that charged and static feeling?
