LG’s marketing is tasteless to say the least. They release a video for the newly announced Optimus Pad, aka G-Slate, with a simulated “Spec Fighter” video game challenging what clearly resembles Apple CEO Steve Jobs and the iPad, not so cleverly renamed to the A-Pad. LG’s unnamed Ninja kicks Jobs in the face at about the 1:00 minute mark of the video.

I’m not an Apple fanboy by any means, but Jobs is not well, and that is publicly known. I’m not saying the guy needs to be babied, but your marketing approach LG, is pitiful. So you beat the specs of a one year old device, you should get the virtual award you so deserve. But when it comes to the real world, you’re still not even close to second best.

Why didn’t you use your own CEO’s face on the one who kicked Steve Jobs shamelessly in the head? Perhaps because you don’t even have a CEO who could stand up to Jobs. You fired your last one because your cellphones are generally regarded as subsidized giveaways (crap), now you expect the next CEO to stand by you? You better keep hiring new CEOs because the next iPad is going to dust your ass again. You may be laughing in your boardroom now, but wait until your next quarterly earnings are released including this tablets sales.

Edwards Air Force Base was the site for the successful first flight of the X-47B unmanned stealth bomber. Yes, the stealth bomber is now operating without a human pilot. As scary as this sounds, the bomber didn’t have a payload, and it all ended well after nearly 30 minutes of 5,000 foot airobatical testing. It landed safely at 2:38PM PST and saw no sign of going missing. The plan is to get this on and off US Navy carriers, which is expected to be in official test stages closer to 2013. Check out the video for some unmanned stealth bomber action.

Northrop Grumman-built U.S. Navy X-47B Unmanned Combat Aircraft Completes Historic First Flight
First-of-its-Kind, Tailless Aircraft Moves Closer to Carrier Trials in 2013
EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif., Feb. 4, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Today, the Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC)-built U.S. Navy X-47B Unmanned Combat Air System Demonstration (UCAS-D) aircraft successfully completed its historic first flight at Edwards Air Force Base (AFB), Calif.

Conducted by a U.S. Navy/Northrop Grumman test team, the flight took off at 2:09 p.m. PST and lasted 29 minutes. This event marks a critical step in the program, moving the team forward to meet the demonstration objectives of a tailless fighter-sized unmanned aircraft to safely take off from and land on the deck of a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier.

A social media version of this release that includes photos, video clips, and additional quotes and background material, is available at http://www.irconnect.com/noc/press/pages/news_releases.html?d=209544

“First flight represents the compilation of numerous tests to validate the airworthiness of the aircraft, and the robustness and reliability of the software that allows it to operate as an autonomous system and eventually have the ability to take-off and land aboard an aircraft carrier,” said Capt. Jaime Engdahl, the Navy’s UCAS-D program manager.

Northrop Grumman is the Navy’s UCAS-D prime contractor and leader of the UCAS-D industry team.

“Designing a tailless, fighter-sized unmanned aircraft from a clean sheet is no small feat,” said Janis Pamiljans, vice president and UCAS-D program manager for Northrop Grumman’s Aerospace Systems sector. “Commitment, collaboration and uncompromising technical excellence among the Navy, Northrop Grumman and the UCAS-D team industry partners made today’s flight a reality. We are indeed honored to have given wings to the Navy’s vision for exploring unmanned carrier aviation.”

Taking off under hazy skies, the X-47B climbed to an altitude of 5,000 feet, flew several racetrack-type patterns, and landed safely at 2:38 p.m. PST. The flight provided test data to verify and validate system software for guidance and navigation, and the aerodynamic control of the tailless design.

As with all test programs, first flight represents the culmination, verification and certification of pre-flight system data collected and analyzed by both the Navy and Northrop Grumman. Airframe proof load tests, propulsion system accelerated mission tests, software maturity and reliability simulations, full system taxi tests, and numerous other system test activities were all completed and certified prior to first flight.

The aircraft will remain at Edwards AFB for flight envelope expansion before transitioning to Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md., later this year. There, the system will undergo additional tests to validate its readiness to begin testing in the maritime and carrier environment. The UCAS-D program is preparing the X-47B for carrier trials in 2013.

The Navy awarded the UCAS-D prime contract to Northrop Grumman in August 2007. The six-year contract calls for the development of two X-47B fighter-sized aircraft. The program will demonstrate the first-ever carrier launches and recoveries by an autonomous, unmanned aircraft with a low-observable-relevant planform. Autonomous aerial refueling will also be performed after carrier integration and at-sea trials.

Northrop Grumman’s industry team includes GKN Aerospace, Lockheed Martin, Pratt & Whitney, Eaton, GE, Hamilton Sundstrand, Dell, Honeywell, Goodrich, Moog, Wind River, Parker Aerospace and Rockwell Collins.

Northrop Grumman Corporation is a leading global security company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in aerospace, electronics, information systems, shipbuilding and technical services to government and commercial customers worldwide.
Today Samsung has revealed five new digital cameras for the US market; the ST30, ST65, ST90, ST95 and ST6500 compact digital cameras. Most notably is the ST6500 with a 7 degree angled lens that Samsung claims “makes for a more ergonomic fit in the hand.” The angled design is the least bit impressive and continues Samsungs’ trend of disappointingly inadequate low-end shooters.

The ST30 is a tiny compact 10 Megapixel shooter with 1/3″ CCD that will cost just $100. It has DIS Digital Image Stabilization, a 28mm wide zoom lens all in about the size of a mobile phone. Expect it in stores this March.

The ST65 and ST90 have a 14MP 1/2.3” CCD, with the ST95 and ST6500 both having a 16MP 1/2.3” CCD. Their prices range from $129 to $229. Check the specs below for more details.

This multi-antenna’d beast can transmit HD video over thin air with WHDI, effectively creating a new bread of media centers for your home entertainment setup, or one crazy ass gaming system. Five antennas extend out the rear of the PCI Express card that will transmit 1080p 60Hz video over a 40MHz channel in the 5GHz unlicensed band.

Don’t worry, the FCC isn’t going to come after you, AMIMON has provided the wireless technology for the KFA2 and they’ve done all the paperwork. This allows you to get about 3Gbps of video across 100 feet, through all obstacles (perhaps not lead) that includes walls, beer fridges and sofas.

3D Vision, SLI and DirectX 11 support is typical for the GTX460 series. The card runs a 675MHz graphics clock, 1350MHz processor clock, an 1800MHz memory clock while packing 336 cores. Pricing and availability hasn’t been announced.

Perhaps you just left it on the roof of your car and drove off like it never existed, then tried phoning yourself and found it ringing a pathetic tone through its busted up housing. Well, there’s good news, RepairLaunch is here.

“Our mission has always been to be the #1 repair services website and our new electronics repair storefront is a step in the right direction.” said Jesse Herman, CEO of Repair Launch.

Sure you can go and try to repair it yourself, i’ve attempted it on several occasions; sometimes things just don’t go back together as they should. “If you have a broken phone there are some things to remember before embarking on a DIY repair mission. First, these phones are not meant to be taken apart. Without the proper tools, it is impossible. It takes practice and research to complete a successful repair yourself. So, if you are good at these types of things and excellent at following directions, you could save money and fix a phone yourself — Knowing we a phone call away to finish the job if needed.” added Herman.

RepairLaunch is here for iPhone repair, iPad, HTC Android smartphone, if you talk on it they can fix it. Just mail in your broken device and you will get a specialized mobile phone tech working on it pronto.

What great news for Sprint customers. Today down the CES vine came word that RIM and Sprint will be offering the BlackBerry Playbook “in the summer.” Now we’re hoping July the latest, but you never know, it could be as early as the end of June. We were expecting a 4G PlayBook (Sprint claims 10x faster than 3G) release in the first quarter of 2011, however, a rumored less than acceptable battery life may have caused the release date to be pushed back to this summer. No word on price just yet.

BlackBerry 4G PlayBook Coming to the Sprint 4G Network
New 4G Tablet to Deliver Unmatched Power and Web Performance – Available Exclusively from Sprint this Summer

January 6, 2011 – CES 2011, Las Vegas, NV – Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) and Sprint (NYSE: S) today announced plans to launch a new BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet model featuring connectivity to the blazingly fast Sprint 4G network. The BlackBerry 4G PlayBook™ will be the first BlackBerry PlayBook model to include wide area wireless connectivity, featuring Sprint 4G to give customers download speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G1. This new 4G model is expected to be available from Sprint in the summer.

The BlackBerry 4G PlayBook is a professional-grade tablet that’s set to redefine the possibilities of mobile computing, giving users an ultra-portable design with industry leading performance, uncompromised web browsing, true multitasking and HD multimedia, as well as advanced security features and out-of-the-box enterprise support. Together, the BlackBerry 4G PlayBook and the Sprint 4G network will provide a high performance platform that will enable a mobile services revolution for both application developers and customers.

“RIM believes a significant portion of the tablet market will want a higher performing, multitasking, professional-grade tablet and that is why we chose to design the BlackBerry PlayBook for premium performance with a powerful dual-core processor and multitasking OS. Together with Sprint, we are now building on that performance advantage with 4G and providing an unparalleled mobile experience for users,” said Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO at Research In Motion.

”We are excited to bring this powerful new product to our business customers and consumers who rely on Sprint for industry-leading devices as well as one of the best values in wireless,” said Steve Elfman, president of network operations and wholesale for Sprint. “This tablet is a great example of Sprint’s strong partnership with RIM in continuing to bring customers powerful devices to enhance their mobility. We are confident the BlackBerry 4G Playbook from Sprint will be one of the most anticipated tablets in 2011.”

In addition to Wi-Fi® support, the BlackBerry 4G PlayBook features a 1 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM and the new BlackBerry® Tablet OS. The ultra portable, ultra thin tablet will offer an uncompromised, high-fidelity web experience with support for Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1, Adobe® Mobile AIR® and HTML-5 enabling customers to enjoy all of the sites, games, media and richness of the full Internet, delivered at 4G speeds. Additional details and pricing will be released closer to launch.

Motorola today at CES unveiled the AT&T bound Atrix 4G Android smartphone. This device packs in a 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor with 1GB of RAM. The massive 4-inch display will be a QHD 24-bit capacitive touchscreen, giving Apple’s Retina Display a run for its money. It’ll host Android 2.2 with MOTOBLUR and Flash Player 10.1. I know what you’re thinking, AT&T doesn’t have 4G, and that’s correct they don’t; so it will use the HSPA+ network until around 2013 when true 4G is unleashed. You can expect the Atrix 4G to surface in the first half of 2011, with another 20 or so 4G LTE smartphones coming out of the AT&T stables this year.

Not just another Android phone. What makes the Motorola Atrix 4G a little different than all the rest is their customized docks. Motorola designed three docks for the Atrix, but most notably is the laptop dock with 11.6-inch LCD display. You’re not going to be running photoshop or anything like that, but the “Webtop” dock will give you a big display to view your Android handset on as well as adding a fully tabbed FireFox browsing experience (Flash included). The other docks are a Multimedia dock for 720p HD playback and a Vehicle dock for seamless Google map navigation and multimedia playback.

No price is set on the Atrix 4G, nor are any release dates for the docks. It’s going to be interesting to see how the laptop dock performs with Android, we’ll do our best to get some hands-on time with the Atrix at CES.

The lightning fast rumored HTC ThunderBolt appears to be confirmed by way of a full page ad in none other than Rolling Stone magazine. This is HTC’s first LTE phone period, and it’s headed to Verizon. HTC Mecha and Droid Incredible HD names were floating around, but it seems ThunderBolt is it and its an electric choice considering its pushing the fastest data around.

Another leak to the right of the 4.3-inch displayed ThunderBolt is the Inspire 4G for AT&T. With HSPA+ being pushed to the edges, it’s not exactly clear what AT&T is doing with “4G” with this offering. Stay tuned for more as we’re sure CES will bring out the best of em, and perhaps we can find out what’s really under the ThunderBolt’s hood.
