The fine folks at XDA-Developers report that ASUS has chosen to lock a bootloader on its flagship tablet, the Eee Pad Transformer Prime. This is extremely sad news for all the tinkerers who were hoping to get Ice Cream Sandwich on this powerful tablet currently running a lightly customized stock ASUS Android 3.2 (Honeycomb).
One thing is trying to improve the performance of the Silk browser, but its just mind blowing how attempting to "improve" it would cause a Fire user such grief that they would easily choose an alternative browser, like side-loaded Opera Mobile with its hardware accelerated Web page rendering. More radical ways of accelerating Web browsing experiences for the Amazon Kindle Fire could be offered by flashing an Ice Cream Sandwich based custom ROMs on Fire, thus rooting it. That is, when these ROMs would be available for public consumption.
Apple in its iPhone design has a success stories that have had a tremendous impact on what the company's next phone designs might look like. In other words, most probably, you won't see a QWERTY keyboard, or a slider as a design target for the iPhone 5. What is highly expected though, is a screen size of over 4", or even 4.3" diagonally.
Engadget has got this story first, basing it on a Russian source NoMobile.ru. They obviously used some online translation service, like Google Translate. Or something else. Which actually looks quite good when discussing specs for a device in question
CyanogenMod 9 is available for maybe half dozen devices right now, and these ROMs are still mostly in their beta custom form, but there's no doubt that soon there will be much more phones and tablets running these optimized
Today's estimate of what Apple can gain from such settlement deals is about $10 of royalties per Android device. What will happen with this revenue tomorrow, when manufacturers will be actively cleaning their devices from last signs of disputed technologies is anybody's guess.
Then, there's always a radical method of saving on that "convenience fee" available; drop Verizon altogether. It's not to say that other carriers are lesser evil, but shopping around will never hurt.
According to a Berlin-based research agency, flaws in the widely used GSM wireless technology could allow hackers to gain remote control of phones and instruct them to send text messages or make calls. According to an article in Korean ETnews, that is retold by Phandroid, the Samsung Galaxy S III may sport a 3D-capable screen. There were several wishful renderings of Samsung's new flagship phone swirling around in the Internet recently, all of them were mildly dismissed by Samsung.
rguments of both analysts tend to agree that the openness of Android as its strong point is suddenly nowhere to be found when business and market considerations prevail. Sure, from a business standpoint, it really doesn't matter what platform and development models are used in a given product: it's an impact of a product itself that has an importance.
Andy Rubin tweeted recently that 3.7 million new Android activations took place on December 24 and 25.
The untether is for iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G. If you have one of those devices and are not on 5.0.1 yet, update now! The SHSH window is still open for 5.0.1 If you unlock via ultrasn0w or gevey, make sure you only get to 5.0.1 via a custom IPSW! See the guides at places like iClarified.com if you don’t know how. Once you’re at 5.0.1, use the latest redsn0w 0.9.10 to both jailbreak and untether.
It was expected sooner than later, but now it's become reality. By hard work and determination of Android Police's own in-house hacker named (appropriately) Justin Case and helpers like Vashypooh, Trevor Eckhart, and IOMoster of TeamWin, the rooting of Amazon's Kindle Fire has become possible once again.
Like a previous ASUS model, this Eee Pad Transformer Prime will take an optional docking keyboard for another $150 that transforms your Android tablet in to a sort of Android netbook, with the keyboard also hiding an additional battery.
finger gestures on a sensor screen. On legacy devices, like signing off your purchase, or a receipt, it's similar to a digital signature. But this time, in Windows 8, it's more fun, even if Microsoft Developers' blog puts a lot of serious calculations and figures behind it.

This is a very early custom build of CyanogenMod 9 (Android 4.0.3 out of Android Open Source Project) that didn't get its own fork at CyanogenMod repositaries just yet. Adventurous users and fans of the original Motorola Droid may get a first glimpse of ICS goodness on their phones by using a download link here. Make sure to follow the discussion at XDA-Developers if you read this news late, as the new builds pop up constantly.

It was reported at XDA-Developers forum yesterday that the OTA (OTA=Over-The-Air) update for the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet to its 6.2.1 version of firmware has killed its rooting procedure, a so called SuperOneClick. It's worth mentioning that rooting in itself is not the real target for all those tinkerers at XDA-Developers and elsewhere. It's just a tool that facilitates running alternative firmware on the Fire, namely CyanogenMod 7 and coming CyanogenMod 9 (based on Android Open Source Project for Ice Cream Sandwich). It improves handling the device in its sideloading mode, and, conversely, sideloading some system apps might take rooting and superuser privileges essential.

Both vendors were also successful in selling their previous models at the discounted prices. However, you shouldn't forget another very popular tablet -- the HP Touchpad, fire sales of which were bringing over 700,000 tablets in the hands of eager customers. Then, as the numbers of RIM Blackberry Playbooks sold at similar numbers to HP's Touchpad, the popularity of having a well rounded more powerful device has grown significantly.
