The mm50 portable speaker is expected to hit stores in September for US $149.99. It’s a plug-n-play speaker for easy connectivity with your iPod or iPod mini. A dock connector that also recharges the iPod’s battery when it is connected into an AC adapter is a bonus. The mm50 model also comes with a rechargeable battery capable of up to 10 hours of audio between charges.

The mm28 portable speaker follows the ‘thin is in’ route. Being only 1.24 inches thick and as such can be easily carried with you anywhere your iPod goes. It is powered by NXT flat-panel technology and is quite versatile. It can be used with your MP3 player, CD player, DVD player, and just about anything else that comes with a standard headphone jack output.

“Many people want to share their digital music with friends, or listen to tunes out loud… And, to do this, they want portable speakers that are easy to transport, include high-end features, and most importantly, deliver rich, clean sound. Logitech’s two new portable speakers – the mm50 and mm28 – will be a welcome addition to the portable speaker lineup.” according to Ray Weikel, director of product marketing for Logitech’s Audio Business Unit.

With over 400 school skills in first through sixth grade main subject areas such as math, spelling, social studies and science are covered in the games.

The TicTalk mobile phone was designed by Enfora to cater to parents’ needs for a safe and reliable communication tool with their children. Now, with five of LeapFrog’s learning games in TicTalk as well, parents are further assured that their kids have in their hands an engaging and educational handheld system.

TicTalk operates on any GSM/GPRS network nationwide and is extremely easy to use. Parents need only log on to a user-friendly website (www.mytictalk.com) where they can pre-set who their kids can call and get calls from. Parents can also set how often kids can make and receive calls, and what hours and days of the week the phone can be used to call particular numbers. TicTalk can even be programmed when it can ring, e.g., before and after school.

It is expected to retail for US $99 just in time for the back-to-school season. Pre-paid phone cards start at just US $25 for 100 minutes.

Ever since Apple established a separate division for the iPod product line, engineers have been hard at work on two main items; expanding its line of digital music players and narrowing its component outsourcing activities.

By reducing its dependence on third parties in producing the iPod, Apple aims to have more control over the iPod and decrease manufacturing costs. These ‘cuts’ will in the end probably translate to better profit margins and lower iPod prices for the buying public.

So far, what is known for sure is that by its October release, Apple 5G iPods will no longer have Synaptics scroll-wheels in favor of an in-house solution.

As for other changes, rumors abound that the 5G iPods will have better battery technology. It is said that Apple is busy developing an iPod that supports user-replaceable batteries, which the firm plans to market in the price range of $49 to $69. It is also said to be busy looking at other iPod battery technologies from third party manufacturers who claim to have extended life-spans and longer runtimes. So now we await the 5G patiently.

In a bid to spur sales of its MP4 player, Handheld Entertainment has lowered the retail price of their 128MB Zvue from US $149.95 to US $99.95. The price drop coincides with the firm’s retail distribution expansion to over 1,000 retail outlets nationwide.

The Zvue is quite small actually, just about the size of a deck of cards, yet it can play MPEG-4/AVI videos, MP3 and OGG audio music files. It stores them on a SD or MMC memory card with no internal memory. It also features a 2.5 inch color TFT screen. The Zvue is just about five ounces and measures 4.33” x 2.91” x 1.1″. Light huh? And now it’s light on your pocket too… figuratively, with its new marked down price.

“The ZVUE’s new $99.95 MSRP is a breakthrough in pricing for the portable media player market as most of them cost more than $250 and don’t have access to any kind of video content that is readily playable”, according to Jeff Oscodar, CEO of Handheld Entertainment.

If you’re wondering where you can get the Zvue now, take a trip to Wal-Mart, which now carries this low-cost portable video player. Wal-Mart sells the ZVUE player with a 128MB card for $94.86.

So why does one snore in the first place? Snoring takes place when the muscles of the throat, tongue and soft palate relax too much during deep sleep. As a result, the tissue sags and narrows down the air passage. You then have to breathe more forcefully to get air and this causes the tissue at the back of the throat to vibrate, producing that ‘snoring sound’.

Snoring affects 37 million Americans and their immediate family. It can be caused by smoking, being obese, taking in too much alcohol, or having certain physical characteristics such as a naturally narrow airway or an elongated soft palate.

The Snore Stopper is device that is worn on your wrist. It has a sensitive micro-sound detector that is capable of detecting when you’re snoring. It will then produce a mild and harmless electric signal that is so light it won’t even wake you or disturb your sleep. Eventually however, your body will learn to just stop snoring as it tries to avoid these mild electric shocks.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not a big fan of electro-shock therapy, although it may work it sounds a bit too mad scientist for my liking. Regardless, if you have tried everything and still can’t stop snoring, then you can pick one up from Gadget Universe for $59.95.

In a sea of mobile devices, the Gigabyte g-x5 tries to differentiate itself by featuring tri-axis motion sensing, which enables handset users to interact with games by simply moving the g-X5 in their hand. Ok, this feature will probably work only in Taiwan but it’s interesting technology don’t you think?

If you intend to work while on your next flight and wish to send files, check email, chat or surf the web, then make sure you are flying aboard a Boeing 737-400 plane. The Boeing planes will now offer Wi-Fi service that enables you to access the Internet features you are used to at home or at the office, even log in to your corporate networks via VPN.

The high-speed Internet service is called Connexion, it lets you communicate wirelessly while in flight. A two-way satellite links with a network of ground-based stations. You can use the service by visiting the Connexion website and creating a user account. Expect to shell out $30 on most international travels, $20 for trips that last less than 6 hours, or $10 for the first 60 minutes of access, then just pay 25 cents for up each minute thereafter.

Don’t expect Connexion to be perfect though as you may encounter setting-up problems due to interference or due to a general ‘conflict’ with your laptop’s set up. Flight attendants can assist you because they can reach ground tech support through VoIP phones or text chat on their own Internet-connected machines. However, these systems are not standard.

The up side? Well, once you’re connected to Connexion, you can expect DSL-like speeds with maximum throughputs reaching 20 megabits per second, not bad at all consider you are 33,000 feet in the air traveling at 830 km/h.

We have so many mobile devices that can capture our moments in our lives, but when it comes down to it all, nothing beats holding a real photo in your hand. Canon’s new SELPHY CP600 does exactly that, you can print your pictures anywhere and anytime directly from your mobile phone or digital camera.

With the SELPHY CP600 portable photo laboratory, owners of any PictBridge-enabled digital still, digital video or digital SLR camera can now produce postcard prints of their photos by connecting their camera into the new portable printer. Have a camera phone? Compatible phones can print seamlessly using the SELPHY CP600 via infrared transmission (IrDA). Bluetooth would have been a better alternative, but not this time around.

The CP600 features Cannon’s DiG!C II image processing technology. As such, the portable printer can provide postcard prints with great picture quality in just around 60 seconds. Worried that your photos will soon fade? Don’t be; pictures produced from the CP600 will be around for awhile alright, up to 100 years to be exact; thanks to a four-layer print process that includes a durable, clear UV protective coating to prevent fading and discoloration.

Pushing the SELPHY CP600’s cool factor, it supports four print sizes (in addition to the postcard-sized one) from credit card-size photos and stickers to 200x100mm pictures. It will retail for around US $325.

Symbol Technologies has not forgotten the SMB segment and as such has brought to market the Symbol MC1000 Rugged Mobile Computer. The Windows-CE based entry level mobile device is geared towards the retail and manufacturing segments – those who do a lot of bar code scanning and data entry, including inventory management, stock checking, and delivery confirmation.

Apart from Windows CE Version 4.2, the mobile device has an Intel XScale processor, 32MB of RAM, 32MB of ROM, a 240×240 2.2-inch monochrome screen, a laser-scan engine, and support for USB 1.1 devices. And the MC1000 is tough too! According to Symbol, it can take a four-foot drop to a concrete floor without getting damaged.

The MC1000, which retails at $695, also features an SD socket enabling its users to either add more storage or add in wireless support (which seems to be a feature being required more and more in the retail and manufacturing business).

This lightweight mobile computer also comes with Symbol’s Mobility Services Platform (MSP), which is responsible for gathering and monitoring information and delivering terminal information to a centralized console.

“As a global market leader in rugged mobile computing, Symbol is further expanding its product line to offer a handheld computer that provides emerging markets and small to medium-sized businesses with an enterprise tool to meet business needs,” said Chester “Chet” Pribonic, vice president and general manager of mobile computing, Symbol Technologies.
