Since Taiwan is home to so many computer and electronics companies, you would assume that it could be a shopping Mecca for all the gadget geeks of the world. While I wouldn’t quite put it on par with the legendary Akihabara region in Tokyo, Taipei is no slouch when it comes to buying some cutting edge technology.
Some shots of the upcoming Motorola Droid Xtreme were released this week. The handset destined for Verizon Wireless has a massive 8 megapixel camera with HD video support and an HDMI video output port. Digital imaging tech in smartphones are really getting out of control as of late, we are expecting the next iPhone 4G to get some HD mc’lovin from Apple. If they don’t serve up some high-def goodness than they may be playing catch up to Android yet again.
I was able to enjoy some brief hands-on time with the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 during CES in January. At first glance, it’s quite clear that the X10 is in direct competition with devices like the Apple iPhone 3GS, it’s big touchscreen display and lack of physical keyboard screams “touch me.” While it does make use of a rather vanilla build of Google Android (1.6) for its core operating system, it’s equipped with two additional user interface features: Mediascape and Timescape. The former is used to manage your pictures, music, and so on, whereas the latter gathers up your social networking and messaging things.
Another Foxconn employee at the Shenzhen plant is dead after falling off a building this Tuesday morning.
With a total workforce in China numbering 800,000, Foxconn is the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer; making devices for leading global electronics brands like Apple and the iPhone. Shenzhen police confirmed the death, and it’s still under investigation as a possible suicide. Nine people have died this year in a series of “incidents” among workers, with two failed suicide attempts.
We had already heard that Rogers Wireless would have the Canadian exclusive on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, but we were left with little more than a “coming soon” when it came to a release date. That has now changed and you may be TimeScaping with the best of them very soon.
Continuing with the Google Android revolution, Rogers has started to take preorders for the Xperia X10. This comes a short while after Best Buy jumped the gun by offering pre-orders on the phone as well.
Busy on-the-go Winter Olympic fans can rest easy – Yahoo has just launched a mobile site with you in mind. Included in the mobile website are: live results, olympics schedules of upcoming events, medal counts, expert commentary, and an athlete search that gives you in-depth profiles of all the athletes.
I just finished testing the Addonics pocket NAS 2.0 NAS2XU2 device that was announced just a couple weeks ago. My first thoughts are that it’s loaded with features, faster than expected, and small enough to use with your mobile office on any budget. This version supports gigabit ethernet, has dual USB ports and an added dedicated port just for a USB printers.
To help you, with the help of the Washington Post, we have put together some info so your laptop or smartphone can get you all the Olympic 2010 events that you want to see when they are broadcast, not just when your station has time to televise it.
It has arrived with a vengence, the holy grail of Microsoft’s mobile efforts: Windows Mobile 6.5.3 and it’s on the Sony Ericsson Aspen. Once known as the Faith, the sleek looking QWERTY smartphone with 2.4-inch QVGA TFT touchscreen LCD, multi-tasking, organizing and adapting the panels just the way you like it.
Addonics Technologies has announced availability of their latest NAS 2.0 adapter. The adapter is a second generation model, Addonics wanted to push the output attainable on your USB 2.0 devices, making transfer rates of 15-20 MBps possible when linked to a Gigabit network.
Some photos of the Sony Ericsson Faith phone were leaked today, although the design is nothing revolutionary, the specs and features may just push that little bit of “faith” in to a hot seller.
Inbrics has been behind the scenes working their M1, this Android-powered smartphone with Wi-Fi 802.11 an AMOLED touchscreen, which slides aside to reveal a QWERTY keyboard has probably got everything you would need . What’s particularly stunning about the phone is that it is only half an inch thick.
Light Blue Optics is a small startup company at the CES show this year and is making quite an impression. We dreamed of it about 8 years ago, the Virtual Keyboard, but now it’s been taken to a whole new level. Light Blue Optics (LBO) announced – Light Touch – an interactive projector that turns […]
The first Sony Ericsson XPERIA (X1) featured Windows Mobile under the hood, but the smartphone-makers opted for a whole new skin and a Google Android platform for the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10. As you may recall, the X10 started its life out under the codename Rachael. It has now been picked up by Rogers Wireless, […]
It was promised several months ago that the Sony PSP would get loaded with a huge array of digital comic books and now that promise is finally coming to fruition. In between sessions of Little Big Planet, you can peruse through everything from Iron Man to the Incredible Hulk on your favorite Sony handheld. The […]
The Google Android thing already has quite the strong foothold in the T-Mobile lineup thanks to a number of handsets from HTC, but it seems that the collection is going to grow with an addition from Sony Ericsson. You might remember this phone as the Rachael at one point, but it seems that Sony Ericsson […]
Arguably, HTC started this whole thing when the company made the TouchFLO user interface overlay for its Windows Mobile phones. Samsung did its thing with TouchWiz and then HTC created the Sense UI for its Android phones. We already knew that the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 would come equipped with its own custom UI and […]
The world of Google Android is already getting more interesting with the Motorola Droid and the HTC Hero, but Sony Ericsson’s entry could make things even more fascinating. Earlier this month, we learned that the Rachael would be officially called the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 and now we’re learning about the official launch date. Initially, […]
How does that saying go? Something about a rose by any other name? This highly anticipated handset has gone through several different names in its storied past, being known as the Sony Ericsson Rachael at one point and the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X3 at another point. Well, it’s got an official name now and it’s […]
There are all sorts of official this and official that for the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Well, it’s time to add another one to the list, because Bell Mobility has announced that the Samsung OMNIA II will be the official mobile device of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. We already knew that Bell […]
Asus hits us with another, the EeeBox PC Eb1501 lightweight entertainment PC. In fact it’s so light that it can balance itself on a single corner.
Oh my, how the netbook market has changed. When we were first introduced to the form factor, we got rather anemic specs and tiny keyboards. These days, the lines are certainly blurring between what it means to be a netbook and what it means to be an ultraportable notebook. Further confusing the differentiation is the […]
So, Sony Ericsson wanted to give smartphones a try and so they turned to the world of Windows Mobile to produce the first XPERIA X1. For the upcoming Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2, this dedication to Microsoft’s mobile platform is continuing, but it seems that is where the relationship is going to end. Nope, Sony Ericsson […]
Even though everyone else is still bandying around with Windows Mobile 6.1 and we’re on the eve of a release of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2, the XPERIA X1 could be in for a very pleasant surprise very soon. Based on some rogue developing, the XPERIA X1 may soon be getting its virtual hands on […]
I’ve never heard about this tagline from Sony UK, but I guess that’s because it never really made its way over to North America. The “make. believe” slogan is apparently being expanded beyond just the Sony brand in the UK and into the realm of the Sony Ericsson mobile division. Because, you know, this is […]
We’ve been able to find a good number of spy shots. We’ve been able to hear some insider information from ninjas deep within the confines of their labs. We’ve been reasonably confident that this phone was indeed real and it was going to be on its way soon. And we’d be right. Here is the […]
I’ve had the opportunity to fiddle around with the first XPERIA X1 and I thought it was a decent effort from Sony Ericsson (and HTC). The feature set was impressive, but I wasn’t a fan of the keyboard feel and the Windows Mobile 6.1 framework wasn’t exactly pleasant. The Panels UI helped, but it didn’t […]
And the blurring lines between a slim digital camera and a slim cellular phone are getting even blurrier today with the arrival of the Sony Ericsson Satio. This gorgeous number is making an appearance at the FCC offices, soaking in all it can while it gets its glamour shots done. And what a glamourous phone […]
When you glance down at the lower portion of this smartphone, you see that it carries the XPERIA branding. However, what this branding does not show is that the rumored Sony Ericsson Rachael could very well be a Google Android smartphone. And it’s got plenty of awesomeness to boot. This is certainly “just” a rumor […]
For people who dabble in unlocked and overseas phones, the Sony XPERIA X1 isn’t a terribly new phone anymore. The Windows Mobile 6.1-powered smartphone is the first WinMo phone from Sony Ericsson and it is produced by HTC of Taiwan. Well, if you’re Canadian and looking for a subsidy, you’ve found it. It took them […]
The recession isn’t only taking a bite out of the banking and automotive industries. A lot of people are hurting across the board and telecommunications is no exception. While the guys in Cupertino and Waterloo seem to be doing reasonably well, the same can’t really be said about Sony Ericsson. As it turns out, Sony […]
A simple and stylish wireless solution for the busy urban professional, the Sony Ericsson HBH-PV708 Bluetooth headset keeps its design cues in line with the rest of the SE Bluetooth lineup. You get a standard earloop to hold it in place and the familiar “stick” style Bluetooth headset that you’ve come to expect from Sony […]
Just because the “new” Fido is a budget-minded brand that competes directly against the Koodos and Virgins of the world doesn’t mean that the poor pooch is completely devoid of new phones. While you probably won’t see any new high-end smartphones at the dog house any time soon, you can still get a dash of […]
One of the features that differentiates the iPhone from other similar smartphones is that it happens to have a multitouch display. As it turns out, Apple may not have the rights to use that technology at all. Elan Microelectronics of Taiwan has been in discussion with Cupertino for the last two years, working to come […]
The Apple iPhone seems to be the hottest thing since sliced bread, so it’s not at all surprising that other companies are trying to cash in on its appeal. We’ve been showered with other touchscreen phones, for example, but very few capture the iPhone feel quite as fully as this latest “legitimate” offering. You may […]
With the international economy in shambles, companies are desperately looking for ways to ride out this unfortunate storm. Some companies are forced to downsize and others shut their doors for good. The cell phone industry is not immune. Chalk this one up in the rumor column, but there is word that there will be some […]
While some of us may still be suffering through an extended winter season, summer really is right around the corner and we’ll be hiking, hitting the beach, and enjoying the great outdoors in no time. If you want your summer to be filled with music, you’ll want to accessorize too. There are a number of […]
As you may already know, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is actually produced by the good people at HTC. Well, the smartphone is showing off a little more of its HTC heritage, because it has been loaded with TouchFLO 3D. TouchFLO 3D is the user interface skin that is laid over top of the Windows […]
When EDGE first hit the scene, people were wowed by what it had to offer. When HSPA finally arrived, we were amazed by how fast the web could be accessed. The 4G LTE technology is the next natural progression and we may (or may not) be getting it sooner than expected. Yesterday, there was a […]
We spotted a teaser picture of this supposed phone a short while ago, but this looks like official promotional material for the new Sony Ericsson “Reese” social networking phone. It’s possible that Sony Ericsson will have more news at the Mobile World Congress this week in Barcelona, but we’re still not entirely sure whether that […]
The tide is shifting a little in the mobile phone marketplace, because what was once a small fish in a big pond is now a much bigger fish in an even bigger pond. The folks at LG Electronics have a reason to celebrate, because it turns out that LG is now the world’s third largest […]
At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Sony Ericsson was busy showing off all of its latest cell phones. The Sony Ericsson C905 camera phone has been out for a couple of months in Europe and the response has generally been positive for this 8-megapixel shooter. But that doesn’t mean that SE is just […]
The current Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 smartphone is produced by HTC, but all ensuing generations will be made by Mobinnova of Taiwan. Who is Mobinnova? The company’s new ICE smartphone might be the best explanation as to what they’re all about and it could be a good indication of what we should expect from a […]
Taking a look around, the only Android-powered smartphone available on the market today is the T-Mobile G1, a handset manufactured by HTC. Well, the Android community just exploded with some new residents today, because no fewer than 14 additional companies have joined the Open Handset Alliance. As you know, the Open Handset Alliance (OHA) is […]
There is definitely some push in the marketplace toward high-powered smartphones and this has pushed us toward slightly larger handsets. People are willing to carry around something that is a little bulkier if it means that the phone can do a lot more than just voice calls. However, there are still people that want their […]
Silver? Black? How about white? Some people just aren’t satisfied with the usual palette when it comes to cell phone colors, so that’s why Sony Ericsson is expanding its offering of handsets in pink. It’s not like Sony Ericsson is creating all new phones with a rosy hue, however, as these are existing models that […]
Many people out there, myself included, are getting pretty excited about the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. Unfortunately, the $800 price tag is a little out of reach. In hopes of attracting this target demographic, it seems that Sony Ericsson is indeed working on a cheaper version of the Xperia X1. Some people may say that […]
When you pick up a shiny new iPod or some other portable media player, it usually comes bundled with a free set of headphones. These do the job, I suppose, but true audiophiles are far from satisfied with what these pack-in headphones can offer. The sound quality simply cannot be matched against a higher-end set […]
Perhaps one of the most hotly anticipated phones of the year has to be the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. The wait is finally drawing to a close, because the Xperia is coming to Best Buy as early as next month! That’s right. If you’ve been a good little boy or girl all year and you’ve […]
Looking to the future of cell phones, Ericsson of Sony Ericsson fame believes that it will be able to take what phones can do today and push them to whole new frontiers. Looking at the proposed roadmap, Ericsson doesn’t seem quite as interested in producing new features as much as it is interested to doing […]
