WhatsApp is a downloadable messenger application for smartphones. This is similar to a text messaging services but instead of using your mobile provider, you use the internet to send messages, photos and videos. WhatsApp is also popular with teenagers because it has a feature that allows you to “Group Chat” with your friends. It had a feature that lets your friends and other contact know what you are up to by posting it as a simple status. But when Snapchat launched its “story” feature the developer of WhatsApp reinvented the way their status is posted – Just like Snapchat.
Snapchat is a popular mobile application today. You can capture a photo or a short video clip and add some caption or doodle or even filters and send your unique creation to your family, loved ones and friends and call it a “Snap”. And there is a feature called “your story” this is the collection of all your snaps during the day. Because of these amazing features Snapchat is trending worldwide. WhatsApphas become the fourth Snapchat Clone. It was reported that Instagram was the first who copied the “your story” feature of Snapchat. The users of WhatsApp was not happy about the transition that is why they are bringing the old way of how the status was when it was first launched.
“We heard from our users that people missed the ability to set a persistent text-only update in their profile, so we’ve integrated this feature into the ‘About’ section in profile settings. Now, the update will appear next to profile names anytime you view contacts, such as when creating a new chat or looking at Group info. At the same time, we’re continuing to build on the new Status feature that gives people fun and engaging ways to share photos, videos and GIFs with their friends and family throughout their day.”

After a month of introducing the Snapchat stories clone of WhatsApp, they just confirmed that the old text based status would be first rolled out on all Android phones with version 2.17.107 starting next week. It is giving the users both worlds, instead of replicating what Snapchat has made, they integrated both –The widespread rejection of users who use the instant messaging service made the team to reverse to the former status of Whatsapp, although with slight changes as now the section of old Status will be combined with the new Stories of WhatsApp. There’s probably a lesson here somewhere about sticking to the things that users like about your app and not just running after the current popular thing that you’re competitors are doing, but given the industry’s pace of copying features from each other, it’s doubtful that anyone is actually going to learn anything from this. Upgrading and improvements are good but cloning is not. If you want to succeed, be unique and create something different and new and not just copy your competitors feature.
