When the Apple AirPods were unveiled last week, a lot of people seemed divided by it. Some people say that it looks hip and modern. On the other hand, there is a group of people who thinks they look like globs of glue dangling on your earlobes.
No matter which group you side with a lot of people have not even asked the most important question. How well does it perform?
We have already uncovered a lot of reviews and info regarding Apple’s latest phone, the iPhone 7. Yet, not a lot can be seen regarding Apple’s latest foray into the Bluetooth earphones market. So without further adieu, let us begin our review of the Apple AirPods.
Let us starts first with the thing that caused quite a stir on the internet; the Apple AirPods design. What Apple succeeded in doing is distinguishing what their Bluetooth earphones look like compared to its competitors in the market.
Most Bluetooth earphones either have a necklace cord or a headband. The other ones cut the cords completely and nearly disappears in your ear. Apple actually achieved in making a wireless earphone that has no cord at all but still visible when you spot someone using them.
Pretty clever if you ask me. Plus, as soon as these babies start rolling out. Many people will get them and that awkward design we will probably get used to the design.
The Apple AirPods will give music lovers everywhere 5-hours of battery life. It is not bad, but considering that some Bluetooth earphones can promise you 10 to 12 hours of use makes the AirPods kind of “meh”.
Although Apple has given us some sort of compromise in this department, the case of the AirPods also acts as a battery that can hold up to 24 hours of playing time. Fifteen minutes in the case would give you a three-hour boost in your AirPods.
If you own apple devices, one feature of the AirPods would really shine. It has automatic connectivity to Apple devices which is more of a neat feature and not exactly groundbreaking.
When you tap on your AirPods you can summon Apple’s Siri. And if you put it near your iPhone would give you an indicator of how much juice is left in them.
The AirPods also have microphones so it also functions well when receiving and making calls.
Don’t be quick to judge just because of the Apple name, the sound quality of the AirPods is actually quite good and can compete with higher end wireless earphones. Bass response is great and I would have to tip off my hat to Apple for making a great sounding earphones.
Comfort And Fit
This is something that the AirPods quite fail at. They fit well when you are just standing or walking around and are pretty comfortable to wear. But when you start doing more physical activity while wearing them, expect a bit of slippage from your ear. You definitely do not want any of those expensive pods to fall off some drainage or something.
The Apple AirPods will be sold for 159 US dollars and will be available in October.
The Apple AirPods is a decent effort by the Cupertino-based company in their foray in the wireless earphones category. It is definitely a good buy for those who have Appled out all their devices, looking for good sound quality, and loves the fact that their earphones have a backup battery for 20 hours more. But if you just can’t get over the weird design, relatively high price, and the fact that it can slip from time to time, then you should look for another brand.
