I’m still completely on board with the whole Chromebook idea, as it seems to be the second coming of the netbook, but there is certainly a market for an inexpensive laptop for some basic web-based functionality. And even then, you want to have a little bit of power under the hood.
Acer already has a $200 Chromebook in the form of the C7, buit now you get more bang for your buck with the Haswell-based variant. It’s called the Acer C720-2848 and it is also priced at a very affordable $200. For that price, you get a 1.4GHz Celeron procesor, 2GB of RAM and a 16GB solid state drive. This is a slight downgrade from the $250 C720, since you get less RAM, but you do save fifty bucks.
It’s not going to be the most exciting piece of hardware in your day bag, but at such a low price point, it’s almost an impulse buy for people who want more of a traditional notebook PC experience (albeit with Chrome OS) rather than whipping out a $200 7-inch Android tablet. The Acer C720-2848 is available now through Best Buy and Amazon.
