Late last month, we caught wind that T-Mobile was giving out 200MB of LTE data for free every month, no strings attached. Unfortunately, there are a few strings attached, but only for certain customers.
When some customers first signed up for the free monthly plan, they were hit with a monthly “network access fee” of $10. T-Mobile has since clarified the “billing problem” and they’re in the process of issuing refunds. That’s the good news.
Second, if you want to get the fully free 200MB of LTE data each month, you will need to have a fully paid-off device. What this means is that if you want to take advantage of the no-money-down deal for something like a new iPad Air, then you’ll need to pay for the iPad’s financing, of course, but you’ll also need to sign up for a $20 data plan if you’re not already a customer. The 200MB of free data will then be added on top of that.
If you own an iPad (or some other compatible tablet) outright, though, the totally free 200MB of data can indeed be totally free.
