I live in Ashland, MA. I just got my freedomPop. There is no coverage at my home although their coverage map shows full coverage at my address! Not sure what to do.

I'm tempting to get this but I will be out of town for a while. What will happen when this goes out of 'beta'? Will they start charging? What is their business model?

I've got my freedompop photon hotspot in the Minneapolis area, and the coverage is great as long as I'm in the Minneapolis metro area. If I get too far out the coverage starts to drop out. Luckily I mostly need to use it while here in the Twin Cities driving around, so it works great - not bad for a free device!

I've been loving Freedompop. I live and work in Baltimore, so coverage is great. My hotspot actually saved my tail during hurricane Sandy when we were ordered to work from home and my Comcast internet went down. Miraculously, Clearwire's towers were still up and I was able to work and get paid thanks to this device that cost me just an $89 deposit. If the company goes out of business and I never see that deposit, I'm still ahead by a couple hundred $ thanks to that storm.

Maybe it varies by location? I live in Seattle and all 3 devices have the refundable deposit.

Thanks for the heads up. That must be a relatively recent change. I ordered my Photon around the beginning of last month and received it toward the end of the month.

I just now looked at the website [at 1:09PM PST 11/09/12 ].

They now sell the Photon and the Rocket, instead of lending it to you with a refundable security deposit. The USB "Freedom Stick" is still lent out under a deposit.
