Google Play store celebrates 25 billion downloads, offers 25-cent games

Google has now announced that it has delivered 25 billion app downloads. To celebrate, they are giving us a pretty good sale deal for the next five days. Parners like Gameloft, EA, Rovio, runtastic and Full Fat will offer up their apps for just 25 cents- you read that right. The company will also run promotions for collections of “25”, like 25 must-own movies, 25 banned books and similar collections. Obviously these will cost more than just a quarter, though.

Now 25 billion app downloads is impressive, but don’t get that confused with total apps. Right now Android has about 675,000 apps, which is about on par with Apple’s AppStore for iOS. Both Android and iOS are quite a bit above their next biggest competitor, Windows Phone, with its 100,000 apps.

What specific games are getting the discount treatment? We have no clue. The promotion is supposed to go live sometime today, but for the moment we don’t have a ‘master list’ of which games are getting the steep discount. Best advice is to head to Google Play and check it out for yourself sometime in the next several days.
