Many of us live within minutes of major box retailers like Toys R Us and Best Buy, but there are times when life gets so hectic we just don’t have the time to venture out into the real world to make important purchases. For some of us, that means turning to the web and ordering an item, which than takes days to arrive through traditional shipping methods. Ebay apparently sympathies with our hectic modern lifestyles and is working to find a way to bring us what we need, all the more quickly.
The new “Ebay Now” iOS app has launched as a Beta, allowing San Francisco users to get items for major partners like Best Buy, Macy’s, Toys R Us, and more- same day as you buy them. Under the service it will cost just $5 to have same-day shipping, and orders are up Monday through Saturday from 9am to 9pm, and Sunday from 9am to 6pm. Many times orders will take as little as an hour to deliver, depending on a variety of factors. This same-day quick-shipping is certainly going to make life a lot simpler for iOS users in the SF area. Best of all, your first use will get you fifteen dollars off (with minimum purchase for Ebay Now set at $25) and your first three orders will have free shipping.
While Ebay Now is an interesting idea, it also has some very real problems it will have to cross if it wants to expand the idea beyond one or two limited cities. Creating the infrastructure for such quick deliveries doesn’t come cheap and if it doesn’t take off well enough it could end up costing a much deeper investment than Ebay will make back from it. Will Ebay Now turn into US-wide service in most major cities? Hard to call at this point, but it’s a cool idea.
What do you think of the idea of same-day shipping with Ebay Now?
