A merger between Intel’s Moblin and Nokia’s Maemo has created MeeGo, a Linux-based software platform for almost everything; pocketable mobile computers, netbooks, tablets, mediaphones, connected TVs and in-vehicle infotainment systems. Their aim is so large in fact, that it is targeted to any Internet connected device.
With the touchscreen phenomenmom sweeping across the globe, more users are moving towards a “hands-on” intuitive navigational interface when mobile devices are concerned. Gartner Research estimates that touchscreen mobile devices will surpass 362.7 million units in 2010, that’s an increase of 97% from 2009’s 184.3 million units sold. By the year 2013, we can expect over half of all mobile devices worldwide to be touchscreen, and over 80% of them being in North America and Western Europe alone.
