Today Nike announced a new wristband called the FuelBand, a new device that measures time, steps and calories during your fitness routine.
Honestly the FuelBand isn’t much different from the many other wristband products out there like the Jawbone UP. The only feature that does set it apart is the addition of “NikeFuel”, a measurement of your wrist movement.
Essentially, Nike claims that the more you move, the more fuel you earn. The Fuelband can either sync to your PC through USB or Bluetooth, and also supports an iPhone app. From there you can keep all your stats in one place and set your own goals.
While the UP hasn’t exactly done well, does Nike have what it takes to really make this kind of product take off? For now we’ll just have to wait and see. Honestly, I do run quiet often for leisure and fitness and find that a smartphone pedometer app is all i need, but to each their own I suppose.
