Acer Iconia A500 10.1″ Tablet For $229 At BestBuy

This year’s Black Friday sales offered some pretty appealing gadgets, but as the holiday season continues there are many more attractive deals on there way, from Cyber Monday and beyond.

One such deal is the Acer Iconia A500 10.1″ tablet at BestBuy. A 8GB model is just $229 with free shipping and a $10 gift card. The price cut is quite substantial for a 10-inch tablet that normally costs $300 or more.

Acer Iconia A500 is a solid performer powered by dual core Tegra 2 chip and weighing only 1.7 pounds. For the technically inclined, its specs reveal this:

  • 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2
  • Li-Ion Battery with around 8 battery life
  • WXGA HD touch screen (1280 x800)
  • 1 GB of DDR2 RAM
  • Internal Storage Type: eMMC
  • 8GB of base storage
  • SD Card Slot for expansion
  • NVIDIA GeForce graphics
  • Adobe Flash support
  •  2MP Front Facing Webcam
  • Outward 5MP digital camera
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth-Enabled
  • Dolby Mobile Technology
  • 2 USB 2.0 Ports
  • HDMI Output
  • Android 3.2 Honeycomb

There are some quirks in handling the touch while device lies flat on the table, but otherwise the tablet is a good gaming gadget, magazine and comics reader, and has very good web-browsing capabilities.

The tablet runs stock Android 3.2 with unobtrusive Acer customizations, but for adventurous user there are some other custom ROMs and tweaks available from the Acer Iconia community of XDA Developers. Luckily, an active user community for the Iconia means that, in time, a ROM running Ice Cream Sandwich will most likely come to the tablet.

Thanks to all the power behind the hood and its active community of users, the Iconia certainly offers a fairly good deal even when compared to other hot Android tablets like the Xoom, Kindle Fire, and the Nook Tablet.

The downside? Expect this to go fast, as they are already sold out online. A good place to still look might be your local brick-and-mortar store. It’s also worth mentioning that  there have been price-slashed Iconia A500 sightings at Costco, too.

I ordered this tablet within minutes it went on sale, got confirmation number, a week went by and I was expecting an email telling me that the order whad been cancelled, when I received the dreaded email, it was to tell me that the item had shipped, 3 days later it was at my door.Great buy.

I had the same problem, order in store cyber Monday, order number and credit card was charged. Went to pick up on the date they gave me. They said it was on back order. I called today and they said the order has been cancelled and they will not recieve this product again. After two hours on the phone I got no where.
So I to will be contacting the proper business agencies

Anybody actually receive a tablet at this price?  I ordered one and got an order confirmation email.  A few days later I got an email that said it was shipped to the store, then on the day it was supposed to arrive I got an email stating that it had been delayed.  When I called to ask what the delay was they said it was sold out and they didn’t know when they would get more.  I asked for them to sell me the 16GB model at the same price and while I was on hold waiting for a supervisor I got an email stating that “they were unable to contact me to confirm information and the order is cancelled”.  Suspicious to say the least – I suspect that they made a mistake on the price and ultimately decided not to honor the sales they had made since they would lose money.  In reality they never attempted to contact me – I never got an email requesting information nor did they call.  The rep I talked to regarding the delay looked up the order and never said anything about needing to confirm information.

Needless to say I have filed a BBB complaint, and will also be filing a complaint with the state attorney general.  This is a deceptive sales practice and is dishonest.  If anyone else had this problem please file a BBB complaint – if the BBB gets a firestorm of complaints maybe they will be forced to honor their committment.

I apologize that the link wasn’t included, this was partially and oversight, and partially because it is sold out. As of now it can only be purchased at brick and mortar locations thanks to low stock.

I actually spotted mine at my local Best  Buy today, so they are around.

That being said, I did add the link into the article now as a revision. Just understand that it is sold out online.
