Voltaic Spark: The solar powered iPad case

The New York-based solar-powered accessory manufacturer Voltaic has now launched a case that will be able to recharge our iPad. The Spark will allow you to recharge your iPad, as well as a number of other mobile devices too through its built-in solar panels, thus allowing for a longer battery life when outdoors.

According to Voltaic, the panels will be able to fully charge an iPad in roughly 10 hours; however, if you don’t spend much time out in the sun with your tablet, the Spark will also incorporate an internal battery, as well as providing multiple slots to be filled with such batteries if desired. That means that even if you don’t want to run around with the case in the middle of the day, you can easily carry on working your device and simply leave the case on a windowsill to gather solar power.

The Spark comes with two USB out ports, a 5 V 600mA and a stronger 5V 2A one; this means that you can charge two devices at the same time, allowing you to prioritize your charging.

Overall, while Voltaic is trying to simplify the way we use our mobile devices, this solar powered innovation could well become a part of our future, completely removing any type of contact with stationary power sources. Then, and only then, can we truly call them mobile.

Seems cool, but you didn’t list MSRP which is $299 so at this point it’s limited to the avid outdoorsman (that needs an ipad?) and those who intend to not be by a power supply for long amounts of time.
