It is an expensive toy. But you have to admit it is pretty slick and cool. If you got the money and you want it, go get it. Else buy yourself a practical android gadget that does everything under the sun (excluding the coolness of course).

This is a really, really terrible article. Not only is the writing bland and repetitive, with numerous errors, it's also just a poorly-thought set of statements.

Why are you upset at Apple due to their use of advertising? And why compare them to "what we were used to: Microsoft"? Apple has existed as long as Microsoft has, and millions of people have used their products that entire time. In fact, your entire issue with Apple is based on an inaccurate premise, which is that no one buys their products were it not for their "fantastic" marketing. This is so DEMONSTRABLY not the case that you shouldn't be able to get away with writing it.

It seems your "dislikes" with the iPad 2 are, for the most part, overwhelmingly petty and mostly unrelated to the actual product. They seem based on some kind of dislike of Apple's marketing, or about the way their employees are excited about the products.

You express an opinion that you feel its smaller size makes it difficult to hold properly (something no one else has remarked on in the many reviews I've read) and that this means "being slimmest may not be your best bet Apple". Why not? Virtually everyone complained about the original iPad's weight, and to a lesser extent, its thickness. Apple continually produces thinner products. This is just what they are known to do. What's wrong with that?

You then go on to say that, in your opinion, the LCD bleed seen on the first generation of a brand-new screen technology engineered inside the thinnest manufactured device of its kind ever created means it should cost $200 less (putting it at $300, or roughly the cost of a hard-drive based iPod and $100 less than the price-dropped iPad 1). Have you even thought about the complete absurdity of such a statement?...

A brand-new product launches at the same price as the old model, a price that has been UNMATCHED by any company, of any size, for almost a year... and you want it to be cheaper because of a cosmetic problem on your specific unit? What?

Your third major complaint is that the connectors are at a slight angle due to the extreme thinness of the device. What, exactly, is your issue with this? Do you find it difficult to align the plug? Since there was no other option given the size, what exactly do you recommend the designers should do instead? They've already designed a case that won't cover or interfere with the port in any way. What would you like them to do next?

I just can't help but feel like this entire review was dashed through in a few minutes, wasn't proofread by anyone, and wasn't screened for any kind of editorial integrity or insight. I haven't visited this site before, but after this, I won't be back...

@ realsurfer

Are you from Psychology Today? :] I don't know what there is to be jealous of, I applaud Apple for their ingenuity and obviously appreciate their efforts for bringing new technology to the table. But their events are outright brilliant in marketing, and i'm sure if any other companies who have a cult-like following like Apple does they would do or are doing similar things to launch products.

As for being jealous about people who buy different, I own the iPad 2 myself personally and these are my experiences with Apple the company, Apple marketing, and Apple products. This is not a comparative review of any sort. Thanks for your comment.

@bomabee"You start off your article confessing you cant stand apple and thr people who like apple." I never said anything remotely of that nature. What i'm saying is Apple can go and release poorly built products and people will still buy it because their marketing is so good. Although the iPad 2 is not entirely crap, it's not as good as it should have been this late in the game.

I don't understand... You say the popularity of Apple products is due to their advertising which, in your words, creates "brain washing tactics", "mass hysteria," "cult-like following", “coolness,” "mindset of superiority", "boosts... the ego of the consumer", "subconsciously triggers... the emotion of desire and worthiness" and "subconsciously triggers the emotion of desire and worthiness"

Well why then don't other companies use their advertising budgets to make their products just as popular?

Reading all your psycho lingo I can come to only two conclusions. Either you missed your calling and should be writing for Psychology Today. Or, more likely, you have succumbed to the common failing of the terminally jealous, name calling. Ask yourself honestly, do you really go on such psychobabble rants about people to buy a car or a refrigerator different than yours? Thought not!

Now just calm down and do objective reviews in the future.

You start off your article confessing you cant stand apple and thr people who like apple. Then you reluctantly agree again and again that the ipad 2 is nothing short of briliant. I dont love apple for their ads.. Stop saying that we do.. Us fans. We like apple because it is way way better than everyone else and you know it.. They may not always be so great and i like all things that a good, beyond apple. But for now, they seriously rule my world.. And yours too.. Get over it.

Interesting video, I was at a launch event too and it unfolded nearly identically to this video. From time to time you would hear cheering and shouting coming from the blacked out store. Emotions are evoked to create a sensation for the target subject, you and I, which creates chemical reactions in our brains that makes us want things, need things, and ultimately feel better when having them. Burying these thoughts and feelings deep within our sub-conscious mind. This is what happened when you first ran in the door as you see in the end of the video the Apple employees lined up on both sides. The staff were instructed to shout "HOW DO YOU FEEL?" to us as we ran in. This will not be on tape because Apple does not allow media inside but is a form of mind manipulation.
