Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is a push for better smartphone photography

Though it’s only got one lens, no projector and isn’t an all-around mind-blow like some of Sony’s other announcements at this year’s CES, their cellphone division is following the lead and pushing the envelope of just what in-phone cameras are capable of.

The new Xperia arc smartphone from Sony Ericsson obviously had photos in mind throughout the design phases. it’s got an 8.1MP camera, and with a mobile version of the same Exmor R sensor as their new high-end Cyber-shot and HandyCams, will allow for bright pictures and HD video, even in low-light settings. And comes with an ergonomically sexy arch.

Use the built-in HDMI port to switch it up from the 4.2-inch 854 x 480 multi-touch screen “reality display,” or just enjoy the 8.7mm-thick, midnight blue or misty silver beauty on its own.

The phone will be running the newest version of Android’s smartphone OS, 2.3 for its release in the first quarter this year.
