New hydrogen technology shrouded in mist of secrecy

Energy Technologies CZ a.s., a small, independent research and development company in the Czech Republic announced a breakthrough in hydrogen fuel generation. According to a company press release, they’ve found a way to produce hydrogen fuel from water “cheaper” than any fossil fuels we use today;  790% cheaper than the current cost of gasoline or diesel in the U.S., and 1400% cheaper than in the Czech Republic.

“We found a way to generate the cheapest hydrogen fuel yet, at 0.50 USD per kilogram (energy content one gallon of gasoline) and may be produced as needed without difficulty anywhere in the world, including your home with no need for storage or transportation,” says company spokesman Karel Pesel.

The press release, and even the company’s website don’t hand out many details about their “next-generation electrolyzer,” or the way it all works, but they definitely have big goals for whatever it is.  Though they don’t let on many specifics about the inner workings of their system, their website has pages upon pages of efficiency comparisons, lofty plans for application and what I can only describe as hydrogen philosophy.

I’m intrigued, but Energy Technologies CZ isn’t showing much of a backbone.

Hydrogen Energy – Fuel from Water

Door Just Opened For Cheap Clean Renewable Energy

“Energy is the single most important problem facing humanity today,” Dr. Richard Smalley

New hydrogen fuel can be generated from water cheaper than any fossil fuels we must use today, 790% cheaper than the current cost of gasoline or diesel in the US, and 1400% cheaper than in the Czech Republic, and anything in-between in other countries according to ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES CZ a.s., based on its breakthrough discovery.

PRAGUE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Energy Technologies CZ a.s., a small private R&D company, has found a success in their revolutionary technological improvements of electrolysis of water. Process was considered expensive due to large amount of electricity needed, and costly technical issues of storage and transportation. “We found a way to generate the cheapest hydrogen fuel yet, at 0.50 USD per kilogram (energy content one gallon of gasoline) and may be produced as needed without difficulty anywhere in the world, including your home with no need for storage or transportation,” says Karel Pesel, spokesmen for the company.

The raw material is water, the most abundant natural resource that our planet has to offer – no exploration, no drilling, no disastrous oil spills and little electricity. This clean hydrogen fuel may be used anywhere fossil fuels are used – producing our electricity, running our factories, our cars, trucks, boats, and planes.

Over time, widespread use of new hydrogen fuel will bring many economic benefits and will become the main driving force in transition towards new sustainable use of clean and renewable energy. Imagine a world that doesn’t have to rely on crude oil reserves. Imagine most homes producing all their energy needs using their own fuel, including powering its vehicles – the concept of independence in energy self-reliance enjoyed by handful of countries may be realized by all of us, and will have a far reaching impact on everything we do.

I wonder… They could be scamming everyone. :)

Then again, they might be too secretive because of the political implications this will every nation. Being able to replace fossil fuel is a huge claim and, I am pretty sure, every nation US included will kill just to get their hands on it.

@lupi, Yeah, I kind of figured they either don’t have their patents secured yet or they’re infringing on somebody else’s. But that’s speaking entirely out of speculation.
      I guess we’ll see, eh?
