Samsung and Verizon are opening the doors on Galaxy Tab sales beginning this November 11th. The price is a whopping $600, that’s it, no discounts, subsidy, or anything else. My guess is the first round are in limited quantities, so they won’t have a problem selling it to early adopters who have a deep inner desire for a less than optimized Android tablet. I’m not doubting Android 2.2 will be an exciting experience on the thing, but Google’s the one who said it, not me. You’ll get a Gingerbread update eventually, but that’s way down the road. The other thing to look at is the iPad, with Wi-Fi and Verizon’s MiFi you’ll pay $630, go for the 3G and it’s $629. Undercutting Apple by $30 isn’t going to win any bargain awards, so if you’re out for the Galaxy Tab you’re an early adopter and are going to pay for it. I can see why Samsung came out with that firm price; down the road I suspect big savings on the tab, perhaps when the iPad 2 comes out in order to be able to remain competitive Samsung can undercut it with the same hardware with a Gingerbread update.
