Before you get too excited about the prospects of getting a shiny new G2, you should know that the launch date for the Android phone is still scheduled to happen on October 6. The good news, though, is that you can place you pre-order at Best Buy’s store to guarantee one in your pocket on launch day.
I can’t say whether T-Mobile stores are offering the pre-orders just yet, but Best Buy will more than gladly take your deposit to guarantee your place in line for the new phone when it hits early next month. The price is the expected $200 with a two-year contract. Go sans contract and expect to pay upwards to $700 for a unit.
As a quick refresher, the T-Mobile G2 comes powered by a 800MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset and it’ll run a vanilla version of Google Android 2.2. There will no HTC Sense or other user interface overlay to get in your way. The other major highlight is its access to T-Mobile’s new HSPA+ network for speeds up to 21Mbps downstream (though the G2 is spec’d only to handle up to 14.4Mbps).
